It's because they're fucking backwards ass people who are very hung up on the bible and in true fashion, like to only pick up the quotes and passages that fit them.

Need I remind you, folks, that your first amendment gives you the right to say anything you want. But it doesn't protect you from your boss not liking what you say and making a choice to fire your ass if it doesn't fit in with their views or if it effects their bottom line.

It would not be considered censorship. But then again, A&E buckled because, after all, they care about ratings and the musings of backwards ass hicks typically draws in a large enough crowd to warrant their ability to talk a lot of shit about whatever they want.

So hey, don't act so surprised now that the show is going back to normal... as normal as it could be.
