The Super Bowl

The Super Bowl

Well, if the super bowl can be summed up to one thing, it's...

As Krusty the Clown would say "What the hell was that?!" I mean, seriously. Did she really say "Twilight's last glimming"? Though I guess in her defense, how often do people watch things o'er ramparts anymore anyway? Perhaps her version was better. It's not like a girl can't critique literature while singing the anthem these days.

I guess I came to the realization that the Superbowl isn't everything wrong with America. It IS America, all you need to know about this perverse and morally degraded turd of a country you can learn from tuning into what the other millions and millions are viewing with this TV event and the tradition of watching it.

All intelligence and achievement of America's scientist serves to continue the existence of the Superbowl for one more year. Yes, "Bowl" indeed for we are spinning around and around in a toilet bowl and it seems like no one is strong enough to give America a courtesy flush.

So there was apparently 8 guys playing today who are accused of sexual assault. Not to mention the scores of others who have yet to be accused of it, but you know our culture is already judging. Good thing it's guilty till proven innocent.. or black.

Most people who never watched a single football game all season just tune in because of the ads. In fact, the game has been boiled down to what ads are playing. Who gives a fuck which teams are padding out the time of the actual game.

Even I have to admit that commercials can be fun to watch in the same way that political propaganda is. But it's really hard to imagine anyone getting really excited about another god damn go daddy commercial. I mean, what the fuck Go Daddy.

I know I'm just giving them free publicity in mentioning them but it needs to be said. They have to be the worse ads ever. They're right up there with Ashley Madison ads. One of the go daddy ads was like they were at a poker table and if you wanted to be a go daddy girl you're gonna have to do something and then she looks around nervously then it cuts to "SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.. Go to Go Daddy"

It's really sad that one out of every four Super Bowl commercials last year objectified women or made women out to be some stupid plaything for men. But hey, you too can go to Hulu DOT com and vot on all your favorite Super Bowl commercials!

I mean, who doesn't want to see another Fast and the Furious movie? Guilty pleasure all up in here. Bonus points for the rock being it in, wha-what! And for those of you who are complaining that the movie ads were too short at 30 seconds, what the hell? I mean.. do you know how much time cost during the Superbowl?

I think a pretty big offense to American culture during this football game was Sam Elliot yakking on about the steel industry of Pittsburgh as if it ere relevnat or even exist anymore. At least Green Bay still has cheese in production and packs meat.

Is it just me or did anyone else think that these guys in the uniforms on the field have never actually worked a day in a steel mill? Then again, I don't think Pittsburgh's had a steel milll for about 40 years now.

And while I love using the Groupon promotions my girlfriend gets, did they actually just make fun of the political struggles of Tibetan life?

Damn, that was just harsh. Ouch man. And what was with that Vince Lombardi ad? I mean, you have to wonder if there's a Vince Lombardi quote that isn't some convoluted way of saying something like "Winning is important" Because from what I see he's pretty much saying that in every god damn inspirational quote they got him down for. Way to reword statements, home skillet.

Most Superbowl parties eventually revert to the basics of "MY TEAM DID A GOOD THING AND YOURS DID A BAD ONE!! DRINK THAT DOWN!" Then you have to deal with those who will always bring up how many previous championships or titles their losing team have won in the past as if it actually meant a damn.

Need I remind you that it's socially acceptable to be drunk now. You really don't even have to care about it. Most of all, you don't need some once-a-year sporting event to fill that craving. Though if you missed this one, the next window of drunk-atunity is next month during St. Patty's day.

Here's a little reminder that most NFL players end up broke with horrible mental and physical injuries by the time they are in their late 30's. And do you think that the NFL actually covers them for life? Ha! Playing in the NFL is like working for the best Wal*mart in America.

At best, the NFL is the Gladiator games of the modern day. Rich white men sitting high up in the stadium box getting all the money, gladiators that live past their first few fights get to keep playing and get the fame with bottle rooms and what not, and if they are lucky, they end up hosting a Sunday gameday show on Fox.

If not, they get shipped off to some local sports showroom to sign autographs for $10 a signature in the hopes to make their next mortgage payment.

As for the winners of this game....

Yay! Another victory for Socialism. Indeed, for you see the Packers are the only community-owned team in the NFL owned by over 100,000 shareholders, and if anyone ever manages to sell the team all the proceeds go to charity and nobody gets any money.

So yes, a great victory for socialism wherein people will be talking about how great the commercials were at their wage slavery day-jobs serving their imperialist masters. Meanwhile they're still shooting to overthrow their dictator in Egypt.

But hey, GO PACKERS! WHOOOOOOOOOO Thank you for showing me the Captain America trailer!

Railing Against Reagan Again...

Railing Against Reagan Again...

Today would have been Ronald Reagan's 100th birthday. There has already been a flood of stories about the man, an icon among conservatives and more generally an embodiment of the right-ward shift that took place in the U.S. in the 1980s.

He really was a terrible president.

But that's not going to stop people from telling their favorite Reagan myth. Be it dealing with the War on drugs, the beginning of the AIDS epidemic or the destruction of urban policies. The bastard was just awful and I have no idea why the media makes a narrative out of his potential 100th birthday.

I do have to wonder.. Reagan's dead. Why the fuck do we have any attention about his birthday? Is this the right wing republicans attempt to get a national holiday going for it? I mean, had he lived, he would have been 100 today.. Woop dee do. Do we do this for any other president? How old would George Washington would have been? Just because he would have been something doesn't make it meangingful.. I mean, it's not meaningful to him.

I would love to dig up his corpse and give him a pepper spray enema. But again, much like if he was alive, he would not remember a single thing about it. We should dig up his body and dump it into the potomac.

If it were possible to bring the dead back to life, it would be immoral to not bring Reagan back and make him suffer for his crimes.

Many people and corporations are just attempting to preach his holy Warhawk supply-side gospel to a new generation, they must be proven wrong with Reagan's ultimate weakness, facts and studies!

I better get used to it. This year everyone's favorite President is going to be the subject of a biopic. You better reserve tickets now!
He was the US president who oversaw the end of the cold war and the rise of the Aids epidemic, a ferocious anti-communist during the McCarthy era who nevertheless referred to his darling wife, Nancy as "Mommie". Now the story of Ronald Reagan is set to be told on the big screen for the first time, in what looks likely to be a sympathetic biopic.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film Reagan will be based on two bestselling biographies of the 40th US president by Paul Kengor: God and Ronald Reagan and The Crusader. No casting decisions have yet been made, and there is no director on board. The project does, however, have a $30m (£19m) budget in place.

Producers have been keen to distinguish their project from the most recent effort to portray the life of the former president on screen, the 2003 miniseries The Reagans. US television network CBS dropped the 180-minute piece, starring James Brolin as Reagan, amid protests from conservative figures. It was eventually shown on a sister network. The casting of liberal Brolin as the president angered some commentators, as did some of Reagan's dialogue. At one point, during a conversation about Aids, the president turns to his wife and says: "They that live in sin shall die in sin."

"Only in Hollywood could you make an insulting, condescending movie about a much-loved historical figure, hire an actor who loathes the man, watch it flop and then somehow conclude that Americans don't want to see a movie about him," one of the producers of the forthcoming film Mark Joseph told the Reporter. "I watched Americans line up and wait for 10 hours for the simple privilege of passing by his closed casket. They love this man."

Jonas McCord, screenwriter of 2001 Antonio Banderas thriller The Body, wrote the script. He said he had been disinclined to take on the project until he researched Reagan's childhood, which he described as "a surreal Norman Rockwell painting with his alcoholic Catholic father, devout Christian mother, Catholic brother and ever-changing boarders the family took in".

McCord's tale begins with the 1981 attempt to assassinate Reagan, and tells the rest of his story through flashbacks and flash-forwards. The film is being scheduled for arrival in cinemas late in 2011.
Let's just focus on the most interesting aspect...
....tells the rest of his story through flashbacks and flash-forwards.
Would you look at that, it'll be just like it was in real life. Though I can't get behind this shit..
"I watched Americans line up and wait for 10 hours for the simple privilege of passing by his closed casket. They love this man."
Not sure if this guy knows this, but many were just making sure he was actually really dead.

I really hope this is two hours of Reagan eating jellybeans while a line of gay men behind him slowly get sick and die. It should be noted that the screen writer for this fine film also directed a Tales from the Crypt episode.

I guess I shouldn't be so cynical. I'm sure it'll be a well researched biopic and will delve into Iran-contra and his support of right-wing terrorists.... I'm sure it'll be the highest-grossing film ever to have a sex scene that includes the word "Mommie" in it.

Ah well.. Blue Velvet has had a good run.

BABY

WANTS

TO FUCK!

I do wonder if the reality of Ronald Reagan's presidence will ever be a popular narrative? Like, will the public wake up from this circle jerking that we do for his image and realize how much of a monster he really is.

I find that if you try to argue the reality of his presidency you would be accused of historical revisionism and eventually just give up.

Though I guess I'll be happy enough if they did this film like they did Momento. It would also fit with Reagan's actual experience. Yes, we should totally do this like Momento as a comedy/farce.

It's scary that I keep hearing on NPR on how much Obama is using Reagan as a positive character study. Why?! It's incredible how a man as evil and incompetent as Reagan was so quickly venerated. he was so unbelievably popular when he was President and I'll never understand why. Oh wait, it must have been his smile.

You want to hear something truly disturbing? Here's Ira Glass talking about Ronald Reagan. Just listen to the part where they go to the Ronald Reagan Library and have children reenact the invasion of Grenada. It's pretty disturbing.

You know those things that happen in history that are just sort of incomprehensible from a present perspective? The American congress passing the fairness doctrine is one of those things.

I should track down the press conference transcript where they're joking about if the president has aids during the aids epidemic. Till I do, here's this lovely anecdote
I told one of my students that the most memorable Reagan AIDS moment for me was at the 1986 centenary rededication of the Statue of Liberty. The Reagans were there sitting next to French President Francois Mitterand and his wife, Danielle. Bob Hope was on stage entertaining the all-star audience. In the middle of a series of one-liners Hope quipped, "I just heard that the Statue of Liberty has AIDS but she doesn't know if she got it from the mouth of the Hudson or the Staten Island Fairy." As the television camera panned the audience, the Mitterands looked appalled. The Reagans were laughing. By the end of 1989 and the Reagan years, 115,786 women and men had been diagnosed with AIDS in the United States, and more than 70,000 of them had died.
Though I think the most surprising thing about that is what a shithead Bob Hope was. But anyway, here's a quote from the press conference.
October 15, 1982: AIDS is first mentioned in the White House when reporter Lester Kinsolving asks Ronald Reagan's press secretary, Larry Speakes, if the president is aware of the "gay plague", which the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has just declared an epidemic after 600 cases and 200 deaths. Speakes jokes, "I don’t have it — do you?", garnering laughter from the press corps.
It makes me feel a little better that in Reagan's last years, he was probably uncontrollably shitting and pissing himself, trapped in his own degrading mind and more than likely terrified of being at the final steps into oblivion. That he even turned on his own flesh and blood (Ron Jr.) is the icing on the cake.

It's not just that he did terrible things as an actor, a governor and during his presidency. Sure enough he did all of those terribly. But he's poisoned our waters forever, giving credibility to ideas that should never been met with universal scorn.

And yet Ronald Reagan has one of the most visited presidential libraries and has a foundation going around getting his name put on new highways and libraries

But hey, let's remind you, dear reader, why Reagan is such a terrible person..\

Reagan and The Fairness Doctrine:
In 1987 the Supreme Court ruled that the fairness doctrine was not mandated by congress and therefor unenforceable by the FCC. In 1987 both houses of Congress voted to make The Fairness Doctrine law and therefor enforceable. Reagan vetoed it and killed it.

Reagan and the metric system: A time line.
1975: The Metric Conversion Act of 1975 (Public Law 94-168) passed by Congress and the U.S. Metric Board is created.
1979: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) requires wine producers and importers to switch to metric.
1980: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) requires distilled spirits producers and importers to switch to metric.
1982: Reagan disbands U.S. Metric Board and fires everyone associated with it.

Reagan and Gun Control
*Reagan supported and signed a 15-day waiting period when he was governor of California. He then blamed it on the Democrats.
*Reagan supported and signed a law "prohibiting the carrying of loaded firearms on one's person or in a vehicle, in any public place or on any public street." The law was aimed at stopping the Black Panthers after their march on the California State Capitol, but affected all gun owners. He then blamed it on the Democrats.
*Reagan supported and signed a ban on the transfer of new manufacture fully automatic firearms while president and blamed it on the Democrats.
*Reagan vocally supported the Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban after his presidency in the early 90s. Which were then blamed on the Democrats.

Another No Shit News Piece

Another No Shit News Piece - Reagan

I love it when the news media passes information that is pretty much common fucking knowledge by now. Like, you can take this and file it in the "No Shit!" folder.
WASHINGTON: Ronald Reagan's son says his father was in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease while still president, the first time such a claim has been made by a relation or associate.

It has provoked a dispute between Ron Reagan, 52, a liberal broadcaster, and his elder half-brother Michael. Both are publishing books to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Mr Reagan's birth next month, which will begin a year of events commemorating the 40th US president. Critics have previously said Mr Reagan was not fully in touch in the latter stages of his presidency.

Some doctors have blamed Alzheimer's, which severely affected the president in his final years before his death in 2004 at the age of 93, although it was not officially diagnosed until 1994, five years after he left office.

In his book, Ron Reagan said he first grew concerned about his father's behaviour in the mid-1980s. Ron Reagan told ABC in the US: ''There was just something that was off. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. There was something wrong at the margins that I wasn't entirely comfortable with.''

He suggested that he saw hints of confusion in the 1984 campaign debates with Walter Mondale and again in 1986 when his father could not recall the names of canyons he was flying over in his home state of California. He then observed that the president was using note cards as he spoke on the phone in the Oval Office. It was about then that Mr Reagan called Princess Diana ''Princess David'' at a White House function.

Michael Reagan, a conservative political consultant, denied his father had suffered Alzheimer's in the 1980s. ''What a way for Ron to say, 'Happy 100th birthday, Dad.' Ron, my brother was an embarrassment to his father when he was alive, and today he became an embarrassment to his mother,'' wrote Mr Reagan, 65, who was adopted during the president's first marriage.

Telegraph, London
How was this not confirmed a long time ago? I'm pretty sure it was but much like anything to do with Reagan, no one actually cares. He was seriously developing Alzheimer's before his second term began. Think about that.

Just think about how we let someone who was forgetting that he starred in a movie with a chimp control this once great nation of ours. He literally had Alzheimer's and yet he was still a better president than Obama is today. In fact, Alzheimer's would make Obama a better president.

I mean.. what the fuck kind of chart is this bullshit?

But anyway, back to the point...
Both are publishing books to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Mr Reagan's birth next month, which will begin a year of events commemorating the 40th US president.
Well then, time to end my life. So we're getting a 'year of the gipper'... In retrospect, it's really too bad he didn't just push the button. Just think about it, a year of events commemorating his life.

It's really scary that they're doing some kind of halftime ceremony in Reagan's memory. Hopefully they'll just dig him out and instead of a coin they'll flip him to see who gets the ball first. It's only fitting given the fact that he did a coin flip in the past...

Just compare the audience reaction to Mcelhenny and to Reagan. Though I'm a bit shocked more from that clip that the Dolphins didn't call tails. I mean, really? Your team is named after a creature with one, perhaps you should always call tails in that situation.

But do you remember when Ronald Reagan was just a horrible Hollywood actor? Top billing opposite a fucking chimp. Holy shit, get a steering committee together, Virgil, this guy gets humiliated by primates like a champ he could go all the way! Oh wait, how about when he was a terrible California governor?

Let's be fair, the man just wanted to go down to the local news stand and read the latest magazines. If you don't know what I mean then let me explain. It's pretty clear that he was mentally out of it because on several news paper interviews over the course of a couple of years, he kept telling the same story over and over again about how being the president is tough mainly because he couldn't walk down the street to the local news stand to read a magazine.

Many people think Nixon was our greatest monster. They're completely wrong. Reagan was far worse. What a terrible excuse for human garbage. Oddly enough, Reagan is just like Nixon. Though it's comical since Nixon thought even Reagan was crazy. But with the both of them, most of the people that hate him were born after he left office.

And even then, we're having the nations youth grow up being spoon fed this idea that he was some great man for some reason. They're going out of their way so much, that it Looks like GE, the company that embraced him as head is throwing him the celebration.
Don’t let anyone tell you that America’s best days are behind her-that the American spirit has been vanquished. We’ve seen it triumph too often in our lives to stop believing in it now
Oddly enough, they don't seem to mention why they fired Reagan on there. Though let it be a reminder that GE shaped Reagan into a right-wing shithead because he was a terrible actor who couldn't find work, so he had to become a spokesman for their shitty TV programs to earn some sort of a living.

Who would have thought that we would end up with someone who says something like this..
We begin bombing in 5 minutes."
Why yes.. I could just see a narrator right now.

Narrator: and if Ronald Reagan were alive today he could bomb with 30% greater fuel efficiency thanks to the GE90 jet engine from GE aviation.

cut to:
GE innovating tomorrow

*logo*

I mean, this is the same company that brought you this ad...

If you still think GE isn't evil, just rememebr that GE made nuclear weapons up until 1989... And while everyone always wonders why I don't watch 30 Rock, I guess it's because it's a deliberate campaign by NBC and GE to make its machinations look cartoony and kooky, like a Mr. Magoo of industry.

But I guess that works for all of you who like it because it just means they'll never cancel it. I'm sure many of you don't give a fuck about them building mass amounts of bombs as long as they don't mess with your Thursday night line up, right?

But you want real proof that GE is evil? Try this on for size!
Send us your Ronald Reagan stories and photos by email

{email address}

Call the GE Storyline to record your memory

{phone number}
Surely at least one of you people still remembers running into Reagan at some point in time in your life. Please share your experiences and your fan fictions with GE. Pay no attention to the fact that GE corporate is funding this whole 2 year campaign to boost Ronald Reagan's image further into the stratosphere.

Oh, if only we had a star wars program now..

I think it was pretty clear to everyone that he wasn't all correct up there. The dude called his wife "Mommy". If that didn't clue you into his world of creepiness, I don't know what would.

And don't get me started on Stockholm syndrome..
Capitals of former Soviet bloc countries, such as Budapest and Prague, are also planning to host conferences and raise statues to the president instrumental in ending the Cold War.

"A good number of people we're dealing with were in prison or threatened during Reagan's presidency. They're very emotional about this," John Heubusch, executive director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, told the Post.
ugh. I fucking hate Reagan. I really really want to go over to his memorial library, one which has air force one and is in the middle of fucking nowhere on your way to Santa Barbara, and just take a giant piss on his grave.

Hmm, it's a nice sunny Saturday before the "big game". Maybe I will. I know there's at least one really good brewery on the way there. Gotta reload, don'tcha know. Like Sarah Palin says "Don't retreat, reload!"

Or in this case, re-chug a bottle of beer. But as you can see from this chart right here:

Fuck Reagan. Fuck his corpse and everything he stands for to the republican right. If he were alive today he would be 100 and not know a single thing, much like how he was during his presidency. And yet he'd still know the most evil things to do, like Prop 13 in California. For you see, he has evil in his bones.

Let's salt the earth over at his memorial ground. It's only fitting.

Twas The Night Before Con Tickets...

Twas The Night Before Con Tickets...

Twas the night before Con tickets and all through the basement
Not a geek or nerd tweeting, not even a text sent

Their browsers were pointed to the homepage with care
In hopes that con's registration wouldn't leave them with sad stares

The fanboys were nestled all snug in tuantuan sleeping beds
While visions of slave Leia's danced in their heads.

When out on the net arose screams spreading
I sprang from the bed to see what was trending

Away to the net I flew like a bat-mite
Flipped open my laptop and logged on to con's site

When what to my wondering fears should appear
But 404 Epic site failure, oh dear!
Come on back up server kick in full gear.

Fifteen minutes to fill out the application form
If I can't get a ticket, Con committee I will scorn!

Paying one hundred and five, with no preview night attached
Damn, looks like I'll be in line at con for next year's first ticket batch.

Finally tickets were had and dreaming can start
For February and July were not that far apart

Thoughts of con's jammed pack potential filled this Cylon slipper wearer's mind!
What's in store for this year? Excitement in all shapes and kinds

With a con book in hand and a watch on my handle
I'll get ground floor info racing from panel to panel.

But more distracting than Lantern chicks, the cosplay will be
So many dorks and freaks, dressed up in neat things to see!

Now Doctor! now, Jedi! now Disco-Boba! now, creepy tight pants tron dude
Can I snap a picture. Another, another! Maybe one not so lewd?

Half off trades and artist sketches for dollars and dollars
Famous comic writers and artist, it'll make this fan holler

Oh, Baronesses! what fat darth! nice hats worn by brown coats-o-many!
So many storm troopers, But no time to chat, I got to get to ballroom twenty!

Gas lamp district will be there to reap the post evening enjoyment
With after party and festivities, I'll surly need more employment

So much fun to be had at comic con this year
And con's staying in San Diego, so nothing to fear
Except for the nightmare of getting tickets to next years...

Here it is, all you nerds. It's the night that you need to be tucking yourself in with your Chewie stuffed doll early tonight in your Battlestar Galactica sheets and turning off your green lantern night light off a bit early. Tomorrow morning is the big day!

Now I know what you're thinking. "Well, isn't that every Friday night for a nerd?". While I'm not going to judge if someone of the geek variety was staying home for the sake of making sure that Fringe got it's ratings up, there's another reason why the nerd community will be getting sleep early tonight. Tomorrow morning is when tickets finally go on sale for San Diego Comic Con

I know, it feels like its been forever since they were originally going to be sold but then come system error after system error. All this after a long drawn out fear that comic con wasn't going to be in San Diego and was potentially moving to L.A. or Vegas in the years to come.

According to the Comic con website, they did do the test a couple of weeks back to see if this new system would work for them. Not sure what was so wrong with the one from last year where they just opened tickets up and allowed them to sell out without creating some huge hype behind it. But they tell us that it shouldn't crash...

Let's just say that I still have my doubts. I mean, what was up with that one attempt to just move it to 6am PST in hopes that a lack of West Coast people wouldn't be awake to help control traffic to the site? Really?! REALLY?!!?

But hopefully that nightmare can be over and you can at least sleep comfortable knowing that you got yourself tickets to get into the show. At that point it's time to move to the next nightmare in trying to book a hotel room.. Dun dun DUN!

Last year the booking system was awful. It didn't help that the Hyatt seemed to be in favor of screwing out comic con folks to appeal to Al Gore's little shindig. Now I'll be honest, I love the Hyatt. It's not as close as the Marriott, but man does that downstairs bar attract the big names

What can I say, I love going to comic con. Such fun time even with all the crowds and madness behind it. Hell, I need to take off my socks to count the times I've been and even though I question my willingness to do it again the next year while I'm at con faced with the insanity, I'm always still going back for more.

So best of luck to one and all in getting tickets tomorrow. I'm sure there's going to be plenty of passes.. just not sure how badly SDCC will mess up some companies' server center.

Tomorrow When The War Began - China's People's Army

Tomorrow When The War Began - China's People's Army

We all know it's only a matter of time before China takes over the world. I mean, they already own us. We just haven't given them the deed yet. And so on this Chinese New Year, the year of the rabbit no less, we should just give it up to the Chinese.

Especially because if we don't, we'll have to face an army that's getting some pretty advance weaponry. Behold the Powerful Dragon.

And you wondered why we keep plastering so much money to government spending in the form of weapons. I mean, not like they need it or anything. Especially given the whole fact that we're so indebted to them.

But this is the perfect weapon for the Chinese. On one hand it ends US Air Dominance in Asia as well as the world. On the same time it will start an arms race the US cannot afford. Remember what happened to the U.S.S.R during the space race? Yeah.. we're going to spend our money on weapons till we have no money left.

Still, the US will be dumb enough to go for it and bankrupt itself. Yay China! So perhaps you better start getting used to celebrating New Years in February

Just check out that exhaust. They already tested it out. All the CCP big wigs were flown in to show off that massive Chinese hard on. And for good reason. It's way beyond the SU-35, and it is more of a competitor to the PAK-50, Russia's F-22. So it should be able to handle our F-22's with ease when it comes to a dog fight.

More to the point, the Chinese can afford hundreds more than the US can of F-22's and their in is the end of US Air Dominance. Still, maybe due to the inevitable US knee-jerk reaction to the Grover will be able to afford matching windows in his house.

Though, I guess you can say on one hand that air dominance is retarded. These super fighters have yet to be actually used in a conflict because all the wars the US does are against brown people in Mig-21's.

That and the drones have pretty much rendered manned aircraft obsolete. Why waste man power flying a plane when you can just have him eating cheeto's in some command center with a joy stick shooting the enemy in safety.

Then again, can a drone do this??

The biggest irony of that movie is that F-14's were already outdated when it came out and were heavy and clumsy as air to air fighters. Not to mention that those cockpits are designed to be easily broken through from the inside because the designers were smart enough to realize that someone might eject through it.

The other ironic thing is despite the western propaganda of the soviet "human wave" tactic and their devaluing of their men, soviet ejection technology was far more advanced than the Americans. You could eject with your plane upside down near the ground and still survive.

Also, I don't even think that the F-14 was even supposed to be a real fighter jet, it just had that one really long range missile for shooting down bombers.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Lockheed-Martian sold that tech to make that jet.

How Much Would You Pay For Your Campaign?

How Much Would You Pay For Your Campaign?

The house passed a bill last week eliminating public financing for your political campaign. To that I say GOOD! I was tired of seeing those third party names on the ballot anyway. Because that's essentially what's going to happen.

So I do hope that you got a chance to vote for a green or socialist party member when they could still afford to get on the ballot. Then again, you need 5% in a national election before you get to qualify for funding so chances are those folks never got any of this money anyway.
Washington (CNN) - The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to eliminate the federal public financing system that helps pay for presidential campaigns and political conventions.

The vote was 239-160. Ten Democrats voted with the Republicans to pass the bill.

The House bill, sponsored by Oklahoma Republican Rep Tom Cole, would eliminate the Presidential Election Campaign Fund. This voluntary public financing system was created in 1976, in the wake of the Watergate scandal, to lessen the influence of corporate money on campaigns. Taxpayers can check off a box on their tax returns directing $3 in federal money to the program. Candidates who apply for public financing must adhere to overall spending limits.

According to an estimate from the Congressional Budget Office released Monday, ending the program would save $617 million over the next ten years. Money currently in the fund–$195 million–cannot be used for other purposes, so zeroing out the program would transfer those dollars to the Treasury.

Cole pointed out that President Obama himself chose not to use the public financing fund in the 2008 general election. Cole said Obama admits the system needs to be reformed, but questioned how serious the president is about fixing it.

"If the President really cared about it that much he'd either have a proposal of his own or be willing to live under the system that he wants other people to adhere to," Cole told CNN after the House vote.

Democrats argued that system should be reformed, not repealed, because public financing puts candidate from both parties on a more even playing field. They maintain that ending the program would force candidates to depend on private sources to finance their campaigns, giving corporations more power in the political arena.

During the House debate California Democrat Lynn Woolsey said, "Special interest money is having a corrosive effect on our Democracy, eating away at the people's confidence in their government and their elected representatives. The one beacon of light in this system is the public financing of presidential campaigns. It is, I would remind everyone, a voluntary system."

Pressed why Republicans want to get rid of a program that's optional, Cole told CNN the public financing system was created before campaigns starting raising contributions on the internet, and it's not needed anymore.

"The President himself has shown how obsolete this system is. It's very easy for people who want to give to any candidate to do that," Cole said.

The Obama administration released a statement officially opposing the bill on Tuesday.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell introduced an identical version of the bill on Wednesday. In a speech on the Senate floor McConnell argued Americans want to reduce the deficit, not underwrite campaigns. "In a time of exploding deficits and record debt the last thing the American people want right now is to provide what amounts to welfare for politicians."

Public Finance Action Fund, a non partisan group pushing for public financing at the state and federal levels, released a statement opposing GOP efforts to dismantle the system. "These efforts are not about saving taxpayer money, they are about giving corporate donors even more access than they enjoy today. We hope these measures don't advance any further."

According to the Federal Election Commission, which administers the program, participation among taxpayers has dropped significantly since it started – with nearly 29 percent of taxpayers checking off money for the fund in 1980 to about 8 percent in 2007.

Cole said he's opposed to any public financing of political campaigns or party conventions, but he conceded that since it's the law he understands why GOP candidates still apply for the public money.

Two potential GOP 2012 presidential hopefuls - Indiana Rep Mike Pence and Minnesota Rep Michele Bachmann - both voted for the bill on Wednesday.

During the 2008 presidential election cycle the federal fund paid out $139 million, down from $240 million in the 2004 election. The FEC reports that this was the lowest drop since the start of the program.
On the one hand, it really doesn't matter. And on the other, fuck America..

No really, I can't tell whether I'll be laughing or crying when I sneak across the border out of this country when the shit really hits the fan and if finally shrugs off the pretenses. This seemed to be the last semipermeable barrier to stopping people from outright buying of campaigns so not sure what else to think about this other than we're fucked.

When pressed on why Republicans want to get rid of a program that's optional, Cole told CNN the public financing system was created before campaigns started raising contributions on the internet, and it's not needed anymore....
"The President himself has shown how obsolete this system is. It's very easy for people who want to give to any candidate to do that," Cole said.
You read that, it's literally being blamed on Obama. Maybe what we need now is a bill to eliminate campaigning altogether and establish one party rule.. The People's Party.

Didn't McCain violate almost every rule of public financing with zero repercussions? At this point we probably should just let the government use the money elsewhere and be happy that the bill didn't also try and give back the savings in tax breaks to these assholes.

As if public financing is of any relevance when the parties are bought and sold by corporate interests anyway. or does anyone actually still think that even complete public financing would bring free and fair elections to America?

You better get used to the sound of Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann. Brought to you by Halliburton, BP and Goldman Sachs.
"A vote for me is a vote for the people!"
