Walking Dead is Going To Be Awesome

Walking Dead Is Going To Be Awesome

It's just a couple more weeks before the walking dead hits AMC and we all get to enjoy zombie television at its finest.

Maybe you need a reminder in the form of a new ad for the show?

Now doesn't that look awesome? Yes. I believe it does. In an attempt to not have to write much today, let's take a look at the main character. Rick Grimes. Who is Rick Grimes? This British person will tell you..

British?! What? Yes. A British person is playing a Kansas police officer. Yup, that seems a bit strange but it looks like it works.

So who else are we going to focus on? How about Rick's best friend in the world Shane;

So you see, this daily blog was nothing more than a shameless plug for AMC in hopes they send me free things. Watch the Walking Dead on AMC on Halloween. 10pm.

The Dead Walk San Diego Comic Con

The Dead Walk San Diego Comic Con

Reporting from Comic con here on the first full day of this nerd con and I have to say, it's still a mad house. It's still in Sandy Eggo, and thankfully doesn't look to be moved anytime soon and the madness... oh the madness. As Danny Glover would say it best "I'm getting too old for this shit."

Actually I'm not. At least I don't think I am. It's crazy but all that craziness is worth it to make the pilgrimage to the mecca of nerdom. I love it. I'm loud and proud. Thankfully though, I am not shambling. Unlike this TV show, which feels like it's shambling in a very slow fashion to your television screen this October, is "The Walking Dead" on AMC. If you haven't read anything about this piece so far, then it's clear you haven't been reading my blog all that much.

As much as I love zombies so much that I got bored with the overuse of them causing me to stop writing about them. For the love of all things holy, there's even a ZOMBIE DATING WEBSITE. But even with the over saturation of zombies in the world, I had to write a piece up about the upcoming comic book turned television show - The Walking Dead.

The story follows a small group of survivors trying to stay alive in a world overrun by Zombies. While other stories tend to stay focused on the zombies contingent, this story is completely focused on the survivors. For you see, it's not the zombies that are the title character, it's the Humans. They are the walking dead.

Just look at Carl, he's wearing a Science Dog t-shirt. A good nod to the comic creator's other works. And in the event that you haven't picked up the book or just don't want to read some funny pages, here's the motion comic in action.

At Comic con there was a panel for the show and while I was a little disappointed that it wasn't in a bigger hall way, it was still really good. So much so that I just need it to hurry up and be October already. There's really no time to waste since this looks so good.

It's really amazing to see a well written comic book get picked up by the director of The Mist, a film that broke the mold of Stephen King novel to films suckage and turned out an amazing ending. Besides that, Kirkman is very character heavy. Having met him a good handful of times, it's always been a pleasure and I just wish the best for him in this.

It was learned that the full roster of writers and directors for the six season 1 episodes is as follows:
#1.1: Written and directed by Frank Darabont

#1.2: Written by Frank Darabont; directed by Michelle MacLaren (recurring director for Breaking Bad; recently nominated for an Emmy after she melted faces with the final act of "One Minute")

#1.3: Written by Frank Darabont, Charles H. Eglee (The Shield; serves as the show's co-showrunner), and Jack LoGuidice (Sons of Anarchy); directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton (Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, Battlestar Galactica)

#1.4: Written by Robert Kirkman (the comics; this will be his first credited teleplay); directed by Johan Renck (Breaking Bad)

#1.5: Written by Glen Mazzara (The Shield); directed by Ernest Dickerson (The Wire, Dexter)

#1.6: Written by Adam Fierro (The Shield, Dexter, 24); directed by Guy Ferland (The Shield, Sons of Anarchy)
All in all, Darabont's put together a fine group of storytellers to push this through. I really can't wait to see this on the small screen. It sounds like an amazing line up.

You can see some of the behind the scene footage that they're currently working on right now via MTV here.

What Darabont and AMC's Walking Dead team are able to achieve on the streets of downtown Atlanta on a summer day is no easy feat. This is talking about hot and humid summer days and closing up blocks to simple living folks.

"We have blocks of Atlanta shut down here, and there's a tank behind me if you can't see it," Kirkman told MTV News. "Just the scale of everything... Everything is being done exactly the way I would've wanted it, and it's better than I could have ever envisioned it. The whole thing is just amazing."

So really, I just can't wait to see this on the best damn channel on cable television.

Fox Vs Time Warner

Fox Vs Time Warner

Have you've ever watched a baseball game and hoped that BOTH teams lose? I get this feeling every time I see an Angels vs Yankees game. What can I say, I HATE the Yankees. They really are the worse team in the world. But even then, I have to deal with fucking asshole Angel fans a lot. So when I see that both teams are playing each other, I just hope that there's no winner and the stadium just blows up taking as many fans of both teams out with them.

This is how I'm feeling when I hear about the situation with Time Warner and Fox. As you may have noticed on the Television ads, if you have Time Warner Cable, it seems that Fox and Time Warner (a company owned by the same folks who own Warner Brothers, thus the WARNER) the two have been disputing over money and it has lead to the potential that come January 1st, you will not get any Fox stations on your Time Warner cable system.

In fact, fuck it. I'm not even going to host that ransom note image. I'm going to steal something from Time Warner's website. Ha ha, suck it Time Warner! (as I type this using a TW internet connection)

Pay Our Price or You'll Never See FOX Again

And Time Warner has sent this letter to it's users

Don’t Let Them Hold Your TV Hostage

At midnight New Year’s Eve, FOX has threatened to pull the plug on Time Warner Cable customers – withholding their programming unless we pay massive price increases.

We think they’re going too far – especially in today’s economy – and we’re glad you agree. Over 600,000 of you have gone to RollOverOrGetTough.com. And, the overwhelming response has been to ‘Get Tough.’ With your support, we’re standing up to the TV networks to hold down the cost of cable TV.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and remind you to visit RollOverOrGetTough.com for the latest information on which channels may no longer be available as of January 1, 2010, as not all FOX programming is at risk in all areas. There you’ll also find a helpful guide to alternative sources for programming – so you can continue to watch many of your favorite shows.

Time Warner Cable is working hard to reach an agreement. We’ve offered FOX a reasonable price increase that protects our customers’ pocketbooks. But we are not giving in to excessive demands.

Don’t let them hold your TV hostage. Click here to visit RollOverOrGetTough.com now or call 1-877-267-1844 to learn more. Together, we can hold the line on TV prices.

Oh, we shouldn't let them hold us hostage? Unlike Time Warner, who in my area, is the only cable provider around unless you go satellite and thus are the only ones that could potentially hold me hostage. Yeah.. You can burn in hell Time Warner. Your service is beyond shitty. I got a call from them the other night telling me that my billing policy has changed. Why or how? I have no idea. But then again, I don't have ANY other land line options in East L.A.

Nope, AT&T cuts off the service about a quarter mile from me and because of their monopoly, Time Warner is the only game in town. I would love to get AT&T and take advantage of their Steve-O TiVo knock off. But I can't. So please don't play a pity party on me about Fox expecting you to pay more for the shows they provide you to show on the cable line.

I called my Time Warner customer support line and asked them about this and they told me that they didn't want to pass increased costs on to the customer that the channels were asking. I then asked them if they would lower my monthly rates if they did stop carrying the channels. It makes sense, doesn't it? If Fox is charging them a lot already and they no longer carry Fox, they should have the saved amount from it. After a long silence and some mumbling, they of course said that they couldn't lower my rate. So really, Time Warner, are you going to stick to that excuse cause it's obviously full of shit.

Hell, if anything, I suppose I should be on Fox's side. If they get more money then they'll gladly be pushing for more productions which means that I have more gigs to jump on to and line my pocket with. So when your Fox channel goes off at Midnight, at least you now know why..

Fuck off Time Warner.

Madmen: It Will Shock You How Much This Never Happened

Madmen: It Will Shock You How Much This Never Happened

While a lot of the Summer season shows are coming to a close, tonight marks the beginning of the much anticipated Madmen Season 3. AMC marks this by killing your time if you're bored as you can Madman yourself by going to AMC's Madmen website.

And for those of you who need catching up to prepare yourself for this new season, let me break it down as to where we are.

Peggy Olson grew up, grew a pair, and got an office. Dick Whitman went to California, but Don Draper came home. Pete Campbell couldn't have a baby and threw a turkey off of the balcony. Betty Draper got pregnant, then had sex with Captain Awesome at a bar. Joan Holloway liked having a man's job for a week, but then got demoted, and her fiancee raped her in the office. Roger Sterling left his wife for a secretary. Idiot.

Sal Romano is still gay, and he secretly likes Ken Gosgrove. Harry Crane likes television, so he took it over. Drunk with power (this time) Duck Phillips arranged to have the firm taken over by a British company (and get Don fired in the deal). Too bad he didn't read the fine print.

Welcome back t the Sixties, guys and gals.

So what can we expect from this new season? Let's let the New Yorker fill us in on some tasty tidbits.
The theme of season three is change. “We wanted our key art to be more high-concept,” Schupack explained, unveiling the new poster, which hits this week: Draper is sitting in his office, looking nonchalant, as water rises up to his knees. The image was devised by the Refinery, a Burbank ad agency that beat out three other firms. Schupack flipped through a binder of rejected ideas: Draper at an office party (“too kitschy”), Draper trapped on an ice floe (“too obvious”), Draper getting sucked into a vortex (“too end-of-the-world”).

If you like the art of the time, or hell, just like the style. You should check out the Madmen Illustrated there's some art there that's really amazing and reminds me a lot of Swag.

And if you're a fan of curvy redheads who happen to be married to captain tight pants(nerd reference) then perhaps you should check out Christina Hendricks in her Esquire spread.

Goes to show you that this show has plenty of golden globes already, if you catch my drift. Though to show how life is really something tragic, you should know Christina Hendricks is dating the "I'm freaking out, man" dude from Super troopers who also happens to be the greeting card co-worker buddy in 500 days of summer. Yes, life is confusing that way.

So what makes this show so good? Well, for one thing the feel and look and production values of the show really do shine. As a worker in this field I can tell you that even though AMC is brand new to the series field, they're doing amazing work with this and Breaking Bad.

On a viewer level, the writing for this show is so amazing that I doubt you really understand how subtle this show is in showing character development. Did you pick up on the fact that Don paid off the Bell boy in the elevator to make sure that it wasn't working, forcing the two to go up the stairs and having Roger puke in front of the clients? All this in an act of revenge for hitting on his wife. I think you really have to see this series twice in order to pick up on all the small things like that. Which is a good thing that we have the creation of Netflix and DVDs.

On a personal level I suppose I could relate to Don a great deal. I mean, he ran away from his problems and started a new. I'm sure we've all felt like we've ran from issues and the way he's facing with them coming back is always intriguing. The flash backs as to who exactly Dick Whitman/Don Draper really his. And how he's not a hypocrite about it. The scene where he's sitting in front of Peggy as she had a complete break down and all his advice is "Do it. Do whatever they say," he tells her. "Get out of here and move forward. This never happened. It will shock you how much it never happened."

That right there was some powerful television. Even if he's off cheating and you're pissed at him yet again for going around town, you still find that the man has a heart and how well the characters make you feel connected to this time in the 60's.

Of course, if you're one of those who doesn't like to watch Television, you can always read about the real life Don Draper.. Draper Daniel. But for everyone else, make sure to tune in on Sunday as this sounds like it's going to be one amazing season.

And on a final note, for those of you who think that there's not enough chances for women to write... 7 of the 9 writers of this show are women. It teaches you that you don't have to be a man to write for a man of the 60's. If that doesn't show that women are given more of a fair chance to write, then I don't know what would.

Getting Burned

Getting Burned

You may not be familiar with Jeffery Donovan. I mean, he is a cable network original star. But you may have seen him in The Changeling with Angelina Jolie where he played a corrupt early 1920's L.A. Police officer. But on USA's Burn Notice, Jefferey Donovan is a burned spy working in Miami and moving his way up in trying to figure out how to get back into the business as well as solving small time cases/problems for the locals.

Well, it looks like Jefferey was burned once more. This time Jeffery Donovan was burned while driving drunk
The star of that show "Burn Notice" may have been a little too lit up when he got behind the wheel last weekend -- dude was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence in Miami Beach.

TMZ has learned Jeffrey Donovan was arrested on suspicion of DUI last Sunday, July 12th. The 41-year-old posed for a cop cam and was released several hours later.

So far, no comment from Donovan's reps.

Which makes me feel a little better knowing that I wasn't the only one who had legal troubles over the last week and a half. I mean, I worked with this man for a very small amount of time during season 1. He's actually a really good guy in person. Very approachable and chill to hang with. Rather funny that his last twitter update was On Friday via Twitter, Jefferey said this:
All fans: BURN NOTICE reclaimed #1 show lastnight on Cable!!!! Thank you for all your support. I promise to reward you. :-)
Well, I suppose he had to get really tanked in order to get the celebration going. The one thing that it doesn't say on the report is if Sam or Fi busted him out of jail. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt and think that he was simply trying to infiltrate the drunk tank as believable as possible.

I do have to laugh a little. My time working on the show had a lot of mocking jokes that there was going to be a lot of voice overs. So people would just talk in third person when setting up the sets in the voice over that Michael Westen does. I can picture what he would say in the situation talking to the officer.
"When trying to pass a field sobriety test, all you do is what the officer says and hope that you can avoid any mistakes."

Then I get pulled down to the reality that he was really slurring his words and all he had to say was this lovely replay:
"When Donovan finally stopped, he didn't serve himself well when he said, "Sorry, I didn't see the red light or your stopped car.""
I suppose the worse part i that his future scenes of him drinking next season might be cut down or cut out depending on if the judge slaps him hard and his publicist decides to do the whole "sobriety redeemer" angle. I mean, at the very least, this isn't Lost. He would have been shit canned and really burned off the show.
