Friday (Night Lights) - I'm In Love

Friday (Night Lights) - I'm In Love

Last week Friday Night Lights had its DirecTV season finale for their fourth season. That's right.. Four seasons have already come and gone and this show is still on the air. It's one of those shows that is critically praised but no one is watching and so it should have been canceled after the first season, but like great shows like The Wire - something odd happened, It didn't get canceled.

Season 2 started up and I have to say, it wasn't the best season. You could tell the writers were trying to appeal to the viewers and compromising their story telling ability to try to get ratings. Some of the things that happened in the first 1/3rd of the season just point to that. But as quickly as that change happened, it stopped and corrected itself.

It stopped caring about ratings and just got back to telling a great story. So when the second season was about to end it was considered dead in the water and was not expected to be renewed for another season. It was that show that was too good for regular television. Which is why DirecTV decided to help pay for it to stay on the air for a third season if they were allowed to show the episodes first. And just like that, this underdog of a show got a third and what everyone assumed would be final season.

The third season continued to crank out great stories and the character development was amazing. This was one of those shows that didn't hang on to characters if it was their time to go. The third season ad a lot of characters walk off into the sunset as their story dictated. It was also was one of the best seasons of the shows. DirecTV aired the episodes without ads and they were unedited. Something that when they finally aired them on NBC were cut down and some music was changed.

At the end of season three I was ready to let go. The show had given three amazing seasons of television that so few have enjoyed and most of the story lines were finally wrapped up... Then something happened in the last five minutes. Something that at the time it was unknown if it would come back for a fourth season but it changed me from being able to let it go to wanting there to be a fourth season so badly as the potential for the story was so strong. A few months later it got the green light that DirecTV not only wanted to do a fourth season, but a fifth one.

The fourth season just ended and I have no felt the love for a show and how amazing the quality of the production and the writing has been since Arrested Development or The Wire. It's come out that the fifth season will be the last one but to be honest, with this show that looked like it was dead on arrival for a network television show in the first season, I can more than happily be able to let it go at season five.

So you're probably asking what makes Friday Night Lights so good? I think it's a multitude of reasons. The very basic one is that at its core it's simply a family drama. But saying that is like calling The Wire a police procedural about Baltimore. There's so much more to it that just wraps itself around the characters. Friday Night Lights revolves itself around the students of West Dillion, Texas and shows you how life is like for these people in this small town that glorifies high school football.

Maybe I like this because growing up in Los Angeles, the whole concept of a small town appeals to me on a certain level. The certain amount of dilapidation around the edges of everything in town that just walks the line of being one or two tough economic struggles away from being a ghost town, but with enough life to carry some character. Which of course leads to the tales of struggle from the inhabitants trying to make it out of there.

It's sort of like listening to really long episode of This American Life. You get to hear the story of all these characters that feel so real and draws you in to learn more about it. Even if it's something that's not your intimidate interest or that if paraphrased to a simple sentence wouldn't hold your interest, it's the story telling in that tale that just grabs you and never lets go.

I've driven through Texas when I was moving back from Florida and that vast open scenery is one of those things that this show does so well. They also pair the visuals of this larger than life, and yet smaller with life areas together with the music selection. I have to compare it to Six Feet Under in terms of how perfect and how much thought was put into the soundtrack for the show. Which I would also relate to This American Life. As both have a very good selection of music as segue onto the rest of the story or a different one altogether.

So when season 3 was re-aired on NBC with some songs changed due to editing down for time, I wasn't very pleased with it. Specifically one scene that was a montage of various characters and whatever story arcs they were going through and Bixby Canyon Bridge by Death Cab for Cutie was playing over it just making it such an even bigger emotional hit to the viewer.

I've already compared it to The Wire in some aspects, but let me take it on to another level. Both shows had five season. This past season had a couple of actors from The Wire show up and become permanent characters on the show. Which only hammered home how much I love this show. Both shows are critically praised but that praise has not translated to any increase in viewership. While it's only on season 4, they have all remained consistently strong because the writers.

So while it may sound strange to compare an HBO show about police chasing drugs to a show about high school football in a small town in Texas but I'm willing to bet that history will look back at the 2000's and these two shows will be the examples they use. I can easily say that this show has the best Husband/Wife dynamic going for it that I have seen on television. Which with the fifth season being the last, I can see the demand for both Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton in acting roles will go up after this show ends.

Don't believe me on how good this show is? Why not read it for yourself from Variety;
As "Friday Night Lights" nears the conclusion of another winning season -- little seen, but enormously satisfying -- the parallels keep growing to another program that ranks among TV's best of the past decade, "The Wire."

A cursory glance wouldn't suggest any obvious connections between the two, other than perhaps enthusiastic critical acclaim that didn't translate into viewers -- a trait that, alas, hardly qualifies either for membership in an exclusive primetime fraternity.

"FNL" is at its core a family drama, with high-school football and the yearning to escape small-town Texas life as its poignant backdrop. "The Wire" represents the great American novel for television, using the hopelessness of the drug war to chart the decline of a major U.S. city -- in this case Baltimore -- as eroding institutions break down and fail citizens, from the cops to city hall, the schools to local media.

As you can tell from that article, I'm not the only one comparing the two shows. Maybe there's something more to it than you think and perhaps you should give this show a chance. The first three seasons are on dvd. While I'm not a fan of the DVD set for season 3, the story is still there and it's still as amazing viewing than anything else on television.

It's the reason why I'm telling you about this now. While season 4 hasn't shown up on DVD yet, NBC will air in April. Which leaves you plenty of time to rent, netflix or just find it somehow find it online to watch before season 4 starts. You should get on this train before it takes off so you can praise the show as much as I do to others who haven't ever given this little show the chance it deserves. You wont regret it.

Clear eyes, full hearts, Can't lose!

3D TV's and The Future of Technolgy - CES Talk

3D TV's and The Future of Technolgy - CES Talk

For the first time in a long time, I didn't go to CES. I know, crazy huh. I used to love going there and seeing what products would never hit the market because they were truly stupid on all regards. Then it was also a good work out walking the Las Vegas convention center seeing those products that would make you cream in about 3-4 years when they hit the market. Beside that, it was an excuse to go to Vegas, the land where people roll the dice and get a load of free drinks. Who doesn't like to wake up in Vegas?

Then again, if I did go I probably would have just raged against it since I have picked up this little anti-consumerist message in most of my blog entries lately.. And yet I'm still cranking that wheel of progress in capitalism whenever a sale pops up. What can I say, it's in the nature of the industry that I am. But still, you can't let it go entirely to your head. Some technology is pretty good. I'm not going to join ZFT or anything, but I can and will gladly question technology as it comes along to see if it's really needed.

You know how at the start of Fahrenheit 451 all the dude's wife wants is another wall to watch TV on, like the best thing she can think of in life is having a whole room covered in TV Screens while her husband goes off and burns books? WELCOME TO AMERICA ASSHOLES. Do we really need 3D TVs? Is that what this country needs? Another pointless entertainment boondoggle that brings us closer to a nation of vegetables, experiencing reality only as a simulation?

I work in the fucking industry and yet I still don't give a shit about 3D TV. Not only does the acronym for it just make it sound stupid and lazy as it's just adding a 3 in front of DTV but what's even the point any more? On the studio lot I got to see one of the 3D TV setups that they borrowed from Sony to potentially work on how they would.. work on it.

It's even worse than I first imagined. The glasses were heavy and uncomfortable and it felt like an expensive, dumb gimmick. What do people do when they already wear glasses, I wonder. I can't imagine wearing glasses on top of my own glasses. It's bad enough being a four-eyed geek, let alone a six-eyed freak. Just a little reminder.. The poor of the world are still living by fire light.

3D TV is a dumb gimmick and I hope it never catches on. Hell, I am leery of 3D anything. Half the time it's just some object or item tossed at the camera to make you move to prevent it from hitting you. Really stupid shit. 3D TV is basically a last gasp desperate attempt for TV networks and advertisers to be relevant now that most entertainment seems to be shifting towards being accessible 24/7 online for virtually no cost and with no commercials.

ESPN is starting 3D broadcast this year and Avatar is going to gross over 2 billion dollars. Oh wow, a football is coming RIGHT AT MY FACE.. this is it, a dawn of a new era. ESPN and others will be broadcasting sports in 3D HD, so some rich sports losers will buy them. Also, Avatar is making money simply because of the novelty of it being in 3D as the story is god damn awful. Literally 20% of its domestic gross is specifically because it's 3D, because that justifies the ticket price inflation.

That 120 million dollars so far that can be specifically and indisputably attached to the fact that it is playing in 3D. You see, you have the option of paying 10 dollars to see it in 2D, or 15 for 3D. If you're paying $15 for 3D, you're doing it pretty much because you want the 3D effects, and the extra 5 dollars is attributable soley to the element. So 20% of that domestic gross is composed of that $5 people are choosing to pay. Avatar was in 3D to distract viewers from its boring plot and one-dimensional characters. Just like Titanic except with the 3D gimmick instead of a giant sinking ocean-liner.

I guess 3D porn is going to own. Maybe I should just get that out there. No wait.. that's like communism. It looks great on paper but much like high definition porn, it's just magnifying something that really shouldn't be magnified. I mean, have you've seen Porn in Bluray? I have never seen so much roughly shaved skin and blemishes on a person ever. It's like putting Tina Faye on HD, you just shouldn't do it.

Further more with the 3D TV, Good luck getting grandma to install another converter box to watch 3D Telenovelas. Bluray and the Wii can't compare to 3D TV which is dumb as shit. Hmm, yes. I want to wear glasses while watching TV and spend $500-$1000 on enough pairs so when I have people over to watch a movie or game, we can all actually take part of actually watching. Who am I kidding, I'm pretty sure that there is millions of people out there that would ignore the deaths of an entire country of impoverished human beings for such a Television that projects things at you in a fake manner.

Talking about useless technology, how about OLED TV's. Just think about it, when OLED technology is perfected, roughly 75% of all flat surfaces in the country will become advertising space like in Minority Report. Oh, you don't know what OLED technology is? It's just a bendable flat see through surface you can project images onto. You can watch it in action here

A great summary of OLED: Completely useless but incredibly marketable to gullible idiots. Then again, OLED displays are used in several smart phones now and they have much better contrast, are thinner and consume less power than LCDs. OLED is organic polymers that emit light and can be printed onto surfaces.

But what the hell -Why the hell would anybody want a transparent screen? I look forward to contact lenses that tell me how many doritoes I have left in my bag and all, but a laptop screen that people on the other side can see what I'm typing? That's just stupid.

Holy shit, there's an expensive thing that I don't have? The 200 expensive things I bought previously did not make me happy but I think they just weren't expensive enough. One of these credit cards is bound to not be maxed!

Just think about the steps that technology has first stepped into. Microwaveable fried chicken and macaroni and cheese in the same TV dinner!? hungryman you tread where eagles dare.

Bending pictures of babies has never seemed so... possible

I realize that I'm sounding like the old neighbor who tells kids to stay off his lawn and how much better things were in my day. But it's not even that. While I don't think any of these technologies really will advance much of anything, other than your crushing debt, I do believe that there should be proper justification other than "I guess we can do it, so why don't we?" in the process of coming up with uses for this stuff. Otherwise we end up creating more shit like the Jimmy Dean Sausage Pancake Corn dog.

Then again, people will always defend new technology on the premise that those who reject the shiny new object due to its capacity to degrade some facet of real lived experience are just like those who decried previous developments. Then they will go on to justify that same product by saying how much this new technology is a revolutionary change completely beyond those previous developments without ever seeing some clash between those arguments.

Why yes. I currently am unsatisfied with my life so I'm glad I'll soon be able to find true satisfaction with this product. Maybe the TV making industry severely underestimates the laziness of the American public. Who wants to put on and take off glasses every time they are going to watch TV? I usually have a TV in the background and glance over between writing seasons. I'm not going to want to wear glasses for something I'm only half paying attention to and wearing the glasses will prevent me from wearing my normal glasses. You can see how this can be a problem for me.

In fact, the size of the glasses are the main torn in the side to the 3D TV idea. The effects may be great and seamless, but in most cases, users of 3D glasses have reported suffering from eyestrain and headaches. Most of all is cost. A few years ago at CES I saw some holographic projectors. These things were straight out of Star Trek. The problem, as with most of the other problem with CES products is the cost that made it evident that this product was never going to get off the ground. Big families won't be able to afford the 3D televisions, along with whatever you need for what amounts to a few programs planned so far that plan on using the technology.

So in short.. I'm going to hate working on a set with 3D cameras are on, they're going to cause so much headaches.

Which Is Worse? Super Sixteen or MANswers

Which Is Worse? Super Sixteen or MANswers?

For a long time we all wondered why MTV still went by that name if it hasn't bothered to show any M's for a long time now. With the state of the music industry the way it is, perhaps it's better that any of those music videos are left without visual representation.

But this lead me to sit and watch some of their programing. What did they decide was more important or cheaper to broadcast than music videos? Oh my. The result made my brain hurt. I quickly had to turn the channel. No longer could I bare witness to the horrors that MTV was showing. Sadly I went out of the frying pan and into the fire with that bold move of the channel up button as I landed on SpikeTV.

It had been too long since Spike TV replaced whatever other channel was on before it. Being that I'm a television nut I should know this answer. Sadly I do not. A quick wiki search not only found the answer. TNN was what this once was. I can't remember a single program on it. What was on it now though was MANswers.

This leads to the ultimate question. Is unapologetic capitalism or unapologetic misogyny more offensive/counterrevolutionary?

In one corner is My Super Sweet 16: MTV's program about rich young girls and the parties that they have for their 16th birthday, which can reach into the six figures.

from Wikipedia:
My Super Sweet 16 is an MTV reality series documenting the lives of teenagers in the United States who usually have wealthy parents that throw huge parties for their coming of age. Parties include the quinceañera (a sweet 15), the sweet 16, and other birthdays including a My Super Sweet 21 (which was brodcasted during MTV's Spring Break party) and My Super Swag 18. The show premiered on January 18, 2005. The opening theme is "Sweet Sixteen" sung by Hilary Duff. The show, while popular, has also received its share of criticism for its portrayal of the girls as rich, spoiled brats.Though the teens are required to perform some acts that are not in their normal behavior, most of their actions are due to their personalities.

An episode in 4 parts, starts here:
http://www.dailymotion.com/relevanc...0s-r_shortfilms

VS.

MANswers: Spike TV answers questions that matter to guys. These are inevitably thin excuses to get background shots of scantily clad women. While I'm not opposed to scantily clad women and seem to have made my fair share of blog post regarding the subject in the last few weeks, I get that sex sells.

A sample segment about the key issue of the day, midget hookers: http://www.dailymotion.com/relevanc...kers_shortfilms

FIGHT!

Although MANswers is dumb and terrible in its aggressive progragation of sexist stereotypes, my super sweet sixteen actively attempts to humanize and celebrate people who live lives of utter entitlement, lifting them up as an exemplary role models. Furthermore, super sweet sixteen is aired on MTV, a channel which still has incalculable cultural clout both here and abroad, ensuring that it will have a much wider-spread impact. You can write a fucking dissertation on this shit.

If they did the show right it could inspire some amazing class hatred. I'm not sure you can actually read how much my blood boils when I hear a sixteen year old say the following:
Has anyone seen keys to the vip?
When the revolution comes, she'll be first against the wall. MANswers just makes me roll my eyes and shut off either my brain or TV if the motor skills haven't already failed. I should note that MANswers is a bargain-basement show. It's really low budget. I'm guessing it cost something around $5,000 to produce one episode, while Super Sweet Sixteen clearly has that same amount spent on the fucking cake alone.

MANswers is actually hilarious in how absurdly macho it tries to be. If it was an actual person you would question if they don't like cock and taking it up the ass. It's the closet friend who pounds beers and acts all tough to cover up the fact that he loves show tunes.

There's also a terrible way the narrator of the show tends to emphasize random words in a sentence by saying them much louder and sounding like a complete idiot. Simple sentences like "WHATS inside your BALLS" just comes across as comical in that manner.
How WOULD a set of jugs behave on a girl who was BOUNCING on a trampoline on the moon?
I did not make that one up.

How would they bounce in space?

MANswers is simply hilarious in its overcompensating ur-macho-ism, like 90% of what spike airs. It is basically a parody of itself. Naturally the objectification of women is prevalent and unwelcome, but the market base of the channel is its own fucking parody so the pull of a show like MANswers approaches nil, and can be viewed safely as the hilariously innocuous drivel it is, mocked thoroughly with each frame.

super sweet sixteen, done by anybody else but MTV, would be a scathing documentary of the insipid entitlement of the children upper-middle to upper-class bourgeois families, the product of two generations overexerting themselves to give their children "everything they deserve", resulting in the cultural decay and lavish opulence of the parties... but, since it's MTV, it is instead a glorification of materialism. and if you want the patriarchy angle covered, think of the color schemes, detail to dress and strict social coding, "daddy's little princess" (almost never mommy's), etc. etc.

"wow wouldn't it be cool to be that rich some day? just look at all that cool shit!"
basically no different from medieval fairy tales about princesses in that respect.

Points go to Super Sweet Sixteen to being worse for humanity.

More video proof of how much total shit this show is.

I guess I should look at the other side of this coin here. While MANswers satirizes gender roles it doesn't do it well. The only show that effectively satirized gender roles was the Original Man Show. Maybe it's because I have a penis and I don't see any glass cieling when looking into a career that I can't judge MANswers as the total crap that it is. It certainly shouldn't dare use the name of Science for anything it does.

The show acts as if it's giving you facts based on science and studies. The science goes about as far as surveys, and pretty much anything other that is complete crap. In one of the early shows they had a "nutritionist" come on and say "The beer belly is a myth because beer doesn't contain fat"

What store will she buy out now?

My Super Sweet Sixteen is horrible for promoting a culture of consumerism and entitlement but MANswers directly follows TNA impact, combining like a Voltron of pure shit to form the dumbest 3 hours of television you're likely to ever find. If your clicker ends up on the channel, it's way too late. You'll were dead before the words "Can you freeze your farts and smell them later? watch MANswers to find out!" was ever spoken.

I watched five minutes of MANswers once because I think star trek was about to come on and the big question they were saving for the whole episode was "When is it legal to video tape yourself having SEX with hot chix!?!" and apparently the solution is go to Italy, there it is legal to video tape sex without consent. Up next: How many TITS can a VAGINA BEER in the length of a FOOTBALL GAME

It really is like viewing the world through 13 year old eyes again. Which still makes My Super Sweet Sixteen much much worse because no one watches spike TV.

Look at his eyes. They are dead and empty.. imagine how bad the 16th birthday will be for him

If my son/daughter ever reaches the point where s/he expects a Super Sweet 16th Birthday Party, it will be a surprise helicopter ride to a fabulous exotic pacific island jungle where s/he will be dropped with a canteen, machete, and topographical map to the drop zone 50 kilometers away where, if s/he is present three days later, extraction will be available.

They should reformat the show into "My Super Working Class Sweet 16". The kids would be depressed and upset that they didn't get a new pair of bootstraps with which to hike themselves to the prom. they'd find out when and where a My Super Sweet 16 party is going on and crash it. Would this be worse than the Hills? No. nothing is worse than The Hills. Actually the hills doesn't inspire hatred in me so much as sheer perplexity. It's so BORING. why on earth is it so popular?? If only because it's a spinoff that is in turn spinning off yet another show. It's like a plague of blonde hair, blank stares, and pointless banal drama

I suppose both of these are going to be neck and neck against each other. Maybe I'm missing the bigger picture. Something for the kids. I'm going to also toss in a vote for Toddlers in Tiaras, a show about child beauty pageants that of course shows how much the girls LOVE it even though every episode has some six year old having a break down or completely not giving a shit about the whole experience compared to their fat mother.

A sample of the horrors

Oh yes.. the horror.. the horror.

I've yet to see a Toddlers and Tiara's show that doesn't take place in the South. Are these pageants really that big down there? While on TLC, let's talk about Jon and Kate plus eight. If you want to feel like your balls were cut off, turn it on and see how Kate berates the poor guy. Kate is a horrible person and she sucks the life and soul out of him. This has nothing to do with her being a woman, she's just a terrible human being.

The whole show is basically a commercial. If Kate isn't insulting or berating Jon than she isn't being herself. If I was that guy I would have killed myself a long time ago. It's the only way out. Could you imagine child support on all those kids? She was the one tha thad serious trepidation about putting her kids on camera till the money started rolling in. The old saying of you can't buy happiness seems to be pretty accurate here.

Maybe it's better once you learn that Jon is allegedly melting down in real life and making out with wasted college girls at frat parties and living three hours away from Kate. I was honestly disappointed to not hear them declare separation at the end of the seasons finale. Next season may very well be called Jon-minus-Kate-and-8chat

Talking ironically, I sure can't wait for the real housewives of new jersey to premiere

She prides herself as one of the first female American Express Black card members in New Jersey.
um... yeah... society is doomed.

To be honest I think society's fucked enough now that television's really not going to influence many people into behaviors they're not already keen on anyway. People are just on edge and greedy in general at the moment.

If you want quality TV look to The Wire, The Shield or many other shows that aren't total crap. Most of all, just try to avoid taking that Dump of death

We Can Be Heroes, Just For One Day... I Just Wouldn't Want To Be.

We Can Be Heroes, Just For One Day... I Just Wouldn't Want To Be.

A show is born to innocence. A show demonstrated it was good. Why then did it go so horribly wrong? Was it will? Was it destiny? Was it complete fucking incompetence? To fight evil, one must know evil; one must journey back through time and find that fork in the road, where Heroes turned one way and shows of lasting quality turned another.

You made me this way, Heroes. Ever since I watched season two, the most drawn-out, tedious, needlessly-slapstick-and-romance-enhanced torture session of my life, I've hungered for punishing entertainment experiences. I have come to feed on the anger and betrayal. That pain, I'm always so grateful for it now, because it's the only time I know I'm still human. But for all the wretched movies and music I've voluntarily inflicted on myself in the past year, nothing managed to sustain its horribleness for eleven hours. A numbness filled my mind with cotton and ice.

Finally, I've found a way to recreate, and perhaps even surpass, my initial agonies. I stored season three episodes in my DVR, where they undoubtedly tainted other recorded programs with their rotting putrescence, until I could no longer bear the cursed anticipation, then I subjected myself to a fourteen-hour marathon. I endured an evil twin, amnesia (again), more jittery quick cuts than the entire Saw franchise, and more variations on the phrase "How is this possible? You're dead!" than I could have imagined possible. As soon as the ordeal concluded, my eyes retreated behind a glazy film, and I started scribbling the revelations laid bare by this masochistic viewing approach.

A Goonies-related epiphany:
Angela Petrelli is a slight variation on Mama Fratelli's tale. Disappointed with the antics of her two favored sons, a sinister Italian matron unleashes a monster child who's been kept in captivity. Like the Fratelli mutant, Sylar turns out to be a misunderstood nice guy - at least for a few minutes. But remember, Sloth didn't stay tame forever, either. He became pretty goddamn brutal in his spinoff sequel The Hills Have Eyes.

New catch phrase that must end now:
Claire Bennett: "It ends here."
Peter Petrelli: "This ends now."
Noah Bennett: "This ends today."

Let the old catch phrase fucking die, already:
Hiro Nakamura: "Save the cheerleader!"
Nathan Petrelli: "Save ourselves, save the world."

Most accurate occupational depiction:
Freshly appointed Senator Nathan Petrelli, who manages to avoid any congressional votes, duties or appearances throughout the entire season.

Worst introduction of a mystical black man:

Wandering shaman Usutu eventually gets to feed time-travelling imp Hiro hyena dung while spouting wise-elder quotes like "The future can only be the future for so long, then it becomes the present" and "Evil forces gather. The dark sun rises." First, though, he must crack a Britney Spears joke and deliver a product-placement quip ("No service here [in the African desert], you should've gone with Sprint"), as if he were devised as a comic foil for the two already-clownish characters with whom he briefly interacts before being beheaded.

Best unintentional reference to Hayden Panettierre's horrifying singing career:
Electric Elle, discussing Sylar's botched hanging: "Maybe his suicide was a wake up call."

Grace in the face of tragedy:
1) Angela Petrelli's not-at-all suspicious first words to the doctor after learning the husband she'd poisoned had died: "I'd like a cremation as soon as possible."

2) Tracy Strauss, twin sister of split-personality skank Niki Sanders, wears fashionable white and retarded oversized sunglasses to a press conference at which her husband, President Nathan Petrelli, laments the deaths of 200,000 people in a nuclear blast. On a related note, most of the zombie-eyed future sketches are vague, with unspecific locations and broadly rendered faces that, if used as police sketches, would place half the city under suspicion. However, the painting of this disaster considerately includes a "Welcome to Costa Verde" sign in front of the mushroom cloud.

Abstinence-inducing sex scenes (Not coincidentally, these were the only two sex scenes):

1) Wrong-headed scientist Mohinder says he needs to make useless twin Maya angry in order to stop her fatal Hershey's tears from flowing. He starts espousing idiotic theories and touching her inappropriately, but this turns out to be alarmingly unrelated. After injecting himself with super powers, Mohinder enjoys a brief stint as a sweaty shirtless douchebag, during which he rips off Maya's shirt during an unwatchable seduction. It's worth noting that Mohinder later crawls nakedly out of a gelatinous afterbirth cocoon.

2) Nathan saves Tracy from plunging to her death during a sub-Charmed flying sequence. Rewarding him with spectacle, she demonstrates the ability to freeze objects with her touch. Nathan observes "your hands aren't even cold," then kisses her immediately. Ladies, take note: Suicidal depression and frigidity are the ultimate turn-ons!

Files of the Forgotten:

Remember Monica Dawson, the little girl who inspired beleaguered New Orleans viewers to stand up and cheer with her inspiring ability to mimic what she saw on TV? Well, she died, I guess. But fear not, Katrina-ravaged metropolis, for I predict she will soon be available to inspire you and teach you how to live and love again! It seems Monica revived when a funeral-home worker watched an idiotic sci-fi soap opera that featured multiple resurrections.

Remember Caitlin, the uninteresting Irish lass with whom amnesiac Peter had an interminable tryst before leaving her stranded in a disease-infested futuristic dystopia? Apparently Peter doesn't. Neither do the shows writers. Eh, good fucking riddance.

Blue-Collar Comedy Villain:

Flint's power seems pretty lame (see, there's already someone who makes fire with their hands, but his flame burns blue). However, he serves another purpose - recruiting slack-jawed yokels to watch one of their own kick ass on that city-folks show with the Indian fella and his fancy science words. This balding hick drawls plenty of yee-haw punchlines ("you want him crispy or well-done?") Even when he attempts to rape a hostage, he's still providing redneck comic relief ("I hear Stockholm Syndrome is like Spanish Fly!")

Mohinder's Burden:
Mohinder's narration seems to exist outside continuity, as you might expect someone who's rapidly becoming a reptilian deathbringer to have a bit more of a panicked tone to his philosophical ramblings. However, they're actually Future Mohinder's punishment for killing two people, even though his victims were conveniently a wife-beater and a drug-dealer. He's been sentenced to babble incessantly, ignored by all who hear him.

There is good and there is evil. Right and wrong. Heroes and villains. We're a ship without a storm, the cold without the warm, the throw before the toss, the hand that writes and quickly moves away. We wait in silence for these times when sense can be made of this show's ludicrous plots, when meaningless characters come into focus. And if we have the strength to be endure absolutely anything, then what we find there, staring back at us, is our own reflection, bearing witness to the duality of life. And each one of us is capable of both the dark and the light, of good and evil, of either, of all.

I Got 99 Blogs And This Ain't One!

I Got 99 Blogs And This Ain't One!

So it has come to my attention that this blog has now reached 100 post. I really don't know how that happened. Well, I guess I know HOW it happened -by me making a series of button pressing and drunk rantings about whatever it is that I found funny or worth pointing out. That still doesn't explain the how of it. Especially with my stance of being counter internet culture.

I don't consider social media as anything more than a comedy option. Sure I spent hours on message boards. Even had internet celebrity as the one with the most post on some DVD forum. If a large number of people found something entertaining, interesting or informative, chances are I hated it and ridiculed it for no reason other than the fact that I could. I never took part of live journal or any blogging sites because I was aware that the world didn't want, nor cared to hear my daily adventures. It would have consisted of something along these lines:
Mode: iNSANE
Dear Journal, Today I drank a shit-ton of Pepsi and then played video games. I may very well watch the Matrix later. Peace out yo!

If they weren't suicidal enough, I'm sure my crazy talk, which I believe makes some people shake their head and wonder what's wrong with me, would push them over the edge and kick the chair out from under them.

Stepping on the grave of those LJ Suicidal peeps

I like the idea of using all these tools to be ironic. Much the same I look like a hipster with my threadless shirts and my casual wear in the same ironic sense that I'm using all these web 2.0 tools to openly mock the internet culture.

This blog rarely, if ever, reflects what's going on with me as a person. Sure there's a lot of my views and opinions littered over every post. You can see what I care about through these post but there's no real description of myself here. That side bar with a profile description? Layers and layers of sarcasm. Though I stand by the stance that I'll openly mock people on the internet. Perhaps it's time, with this 100 blog, that I strip off the protective layers and show you who I am.

Weird.. I know.

Javier is a twenty-eight year old male who resides in Los Angeles. I have boyish good looks with an eccentric nose that looks right on a person working in the industry. There are dark blue rings under my eyes and I have the skin pallor of a man who has toiled under florescent lights for too long. I wear the bemused expression of a guy who knows how bad it can get. Who is always looking and waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm not so much a screamer anymore.

That is the primer of all this. I'm a deeply complex person who seems to collect a lot of silly images from the internet in a vain effort to post them again some day. I have folders and folders of images that will more than likely end up as image macros and played out internet memes.

Serious Discussion

I have made an effort to keep as much personal life out of here. You don't want to hear about it and frankly, I'd rather escape those situations through a series of comedy writings highlighting what I find funny. I'm proud that this hasn't gone down the road of most live journals. Content is king and I try to keep this as entertaining as possible. Conflict may be the essence of drama but it seldom makes for a good read to those not introduced to the characters of your story.

I like to think that I live up to the name WeirdTV. It holds a special meaning to me growing up as it shaped the way I viewed everything. Weird TV was something that shaped the 15 year old mind of mine. It was a late night show on the now defunct KCOP Channel 13 in Los Angeles. It would make more sense if I was either drunk, high or a combination of both. For what it was, it was the bullet in the gun of my creative mind and turned me towards broadcasting. I wanted to unleash such madness on others.

So here I am thirteen years later working in the industry. It's a big part of me and what I'd like to consider my future. For all you film students, interns looking to move up the ranks, personal assistants and the otherwise unemployable actors who make up so much of our work force, I have some knowledge to lay upon you from a little over ten years of doing all the wrong and some of the right in the Television and Film industry.

Striking for fellow writers

For the growing number of people who come out to L.A and are considering entering the industry I have some advice, too. In fact, let's dispose of you first.

So you want to be in the industry? You really, really really want to be in this industry? If you've been working in another line of business, have been accustomed to working eight to nine hour days, weekends and evenings off, holidays with the family, regular sex with your significant other. If you are used to being treated with some modicum of dignity, spoken to and interacted with as a human being, seen as an equal with hopes, dreams opinions and aspirations. The sort of qualities you'd expect of most working persons... Then you should reconsider what you'll be facing when you graduate from whatever quick film school or theater troop that filled your head with this nonsense to start with.

I'm not kidding when I say that at least in the beginning, you have no rights, are not entitled to an opinion or a personality. All you can hopefully expect is to be treated like a gopher, only less useful. I wish I had a dollar for every well meaning career changer who attended a four month course and showed up to be an intern on one of my film sets. More often than not, one look at what they would really be spending their first few months doing, one look at what their schedule would be, and they ran away in terror.

To those serious ones who know what it is they were entering, who are fully prepared, ready, willing and able, and committed to this career path. Who want to be whatever they want to be in the industry, must work on a studio lot, whatever the personal cost and physical demands. Willing to have to deal with months without work only to jump back on the wagon and do sixteen hour days. Then I have this to say to you.

Welcome on set. Stick around long enough, do your job in some half way decent way, survive the long hours with little to no personal time and I'll be glad to take you out for a cold beer after work. Don't worry, we wont stay out too long. I know you need to get in some sleep before the next call time.

Yeah, back to the weird.

And after I finish writing this I just realize that I actually have 99 blogs this year with 11 last year. This whole blog was built on a foundation of lies and much like a city built on Rock and Roll, it's not structurally sound. So hell, this is actually the 111th blog and is simply another arbitrarily number in a sea of mind rantings. Then again, 111 blogs later, it's never too late for me to introduce myself. It goes without saying that the About The Author section of any book is at the very back.
