I realize it takes time to plan a wedding, but let's just get it out there - the window for this gay marriage thing may be a little small, so hurry up and get your flowers all set up already because you see Judge Vaughn R. Walker essentially lifted the stay so gay couples in California can get married again.

You hear that noise? It's the sound of 24 million Yes on 8 dollars that just went down the drain. Vaughn R. Walker is not only gay, but he's also awesome. Though he's probably going to get hot by some other judge who will then claim insanity or something.

I mean, marriage is still state-subsidized rape and all, but oh well, good for the gay community now. The nuclear families are the cells of the capitalist cancer when you think about it.. Remember that movie "I pronounce you chuck and larry" where in the trailer they were supposed to be fake gay married and someone was all like "why don't you kiss" and then they were all "ewwwwwwww"

According to the media pundits, it's now only days away till they also lift the ban on dog marriages and my taboo love for my welsh corgi can finally be publicly consummated.

Just FYI, the stay has been extended for at least another week, so gays can't get married just yet but then again, I'm not even gay and I half want to marry some other guy just because we can. Or should I take it one step up? I have this horse I want to marry, they should be able to help me out on this one, right?

You know that the Yes on 8 will file an appeal to the 9th, and a three judge panel there will determine the standing issue. If the prop 8 supporters are denied standing by the 9th, then they have to appeal to the Supreme Court. Who will then determine standing and send the case back to the 9th as necessary.

While all this is a bit confusing and not very helpful without a singing and dancing bill to help guide you through the process, it still shows that Walker's stay decision was a long "Fuck you" to the Prop 8 supporters and strongly spells out their lack of standing on the matter.

I do find it amusing that the case is going to be called "Perry v Schwarzenegger" because I like the idea of Arnold's name being enshrined in history books next to Brown v Board. He deserves it after vetoing marriage equality bills twice now.

Do you remember when Prop 8 was first put on the ballot and Arnold said "That will never happen. I will fight it" and then it as put on the ballot and he didn't do shit about it.. and then it passed. Yeah, good times...

I guess to his credit he's not defending it and also was part of the petition to the judge to life the injunction. In fact, the fact that the state didn't even bother trying to defend the amendment in court was an important part of the ruling because then the only people fighting for it were the random activists who don't have standing.

In recent news, Prop 8 appeals are finally going to go to the court room to see if it violates the rights of others.. let me clue you in.. it does. But in this case, it seems that The Federal Trail will be Televised...

The federal trial on the constitutionality of California's same-sex marriage ban beginning next week will be videotaped and uploaded to a video-sharing Web site, the presiding judge ruled Wednesday.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, who first floated the idea of broadcasting the highly anticipated proceedings live several months ago, said he decided instead to have court employees record the trial for delayed broadcast on Google's YouTube Web site.

Walker did not explicitly say why he favored a system that could keep the proceedings from being aired for hours instead of one that allowed for simultaneous broadcast. But he said he felt strongly that "it's important for the transmission to be absolutely within the court's control."

It will be the first federal trial in a Western state and one of only a handful nationwide to be taped and aired in public in any form. It also will be the first federal trial on whether denying gays the right to wed constitutes unlawful discrimination to be taped and offered to the public.

The governing body for federal courts in the West recently approved a pilot program that would for the first time allow cameras in civil trials being decided by judges.

Walker said the case's national importance was one of the reasons he was keen to have the proceedings recorded and viewed by as many people as possible as a giant civics lesson.

"I always thought that if people could see how the judiciary really works, they would take a somewhat different view of it," he said.

The plan that Walker outlined Wednesday needs to be approved by the chief judge of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, but such approval seemed likely since that same judge announced the pilot program a mere weeks ago knowing of Walker's interest in having the gay marriage case viewed by audiences outside his courtroom.

Walker said the trial would be streamed live in an overflow room at the federal courthouse, as well as to the 9th Circuit's courthouses in San Francisco; Pasadena, Calif., Seattle; and Portland, Ore. He said he also had received requests for live feeds from two federal courthouses in Illinois.

Lawyers representing the sponsors of the state's voter-approved gay marriage ban, known as Proposition 8, opposed broadcasting the trial in any form, arguing that witnesses might be intimidated or harassed because of the high emotions surrounding the gay marriage issue.

Walker said he would consider requests at trial to black out the video if individual witnesses object to being recorded.

A coalition of print and broadcast news organizations, including The Associated Press, had encouraged Walker to let a single broadcast media company record the proceedings and make them immediately available to other news outlets. But Walker said he wanted only court employees sitting behind the three video cameras that would be set up in his courtroom, in part so he could decide to pull the plug on the broadcast experiment if it turned out to be interference or a distraction.

Thomas Burke, a media lawyer who represented the news organizations, called Walker's decision an important first step in increasing public access to judicial proceedings of significant interest.

Burke said it was his understanding that staffing and equipment limitations ruled out a live broadcast.

"I did not hear anything from the judge suggesting that's a delay he wants," Burke said.

when i first read about this i thought it would be something like a local trial, not a federal one. The trail starts on Monday, January 11th. But I think it's incredibly funny that these people who are opposed to giving people the same rights they have (fuck you, got mine) that they don't want anyone to see their faces as they spew out their hate. One of the major reasons why it passed even though polling showed that people who were asked were saying something that was politically correct because they were asked point blank, but would gladly vote away the rights of someone else when the ballot curtains are closed.

Being that I worked during a couple of elections, I can tell you that someone's reaction vastly changes when they don't have someone over their shoulder looking at what they vote for.



I'm just curious as how this is going to go down. Is there any evidence that federal judges rule along the political lines of the President that appointed the? Because this federal judge that allowed this to be televised was appointed by Bush. I mean it's a given that SCOTUS judges go down party lines, but there are a fuck of a lot of federal judges to try to get party loyalty out of.

Besides, it's been 20 years and he's from SF. Allowing the trail to be broadcast at all is a good ove and makes me think he's a bit more liberal than he lets on. There's this case he presided over involving the NSA, in which he ruled against them and their state secrets. So I gotta say, today I learned of a new hero. Booyah.



But back to these assholes who want to get rid of human rights.. Yeah, gee. Thanks for spending millions to advertise outright lies to get prop 8 passed, church of latter day saints. We all know you're trying to draw attention away from the facts that Joseph Smith was a con man and Utah is shit, but to deny someone the ability to be miserable is something you don't have the right to do.



I'm glad they'll televised this. I mean, is there any reason why not to? Other than to hide behind the court room with your hate for others rights? Many supports claimed that having cameras in the courtroom would violate federal court rules and would intimidate witnesses. Um, perhaps you shouldn't be afraid of your own message. Unless it's one that you know will be hated. Hell, I talk a lot of shit in this blog but I never back down in being able to be open and saying it. They even filed a motion (.pdf) to withdraw from the case, citing fear for his life. That's a true test on how unjust and against civil rights your cause actually is.

Will this end the unjust lack of marriage between homosexuals? Not really. If anything, it's the start of another long battle. Even if they win in this appeal, if the religious side loses they'll just send it to the supreme court, which doesn't really favor or lean towards granting them the right for marriage.



So let's see how this plays out. But god damn, I can't help but enjoy seeing these religious fucks who want to take the rights away from others act as if they're being treated unfair. So you might remember that I was ranting about how Maine had a proposition on the ballot for November to, much like prop 8, make it illegal for Gays to marry? Oh, you don't remember my post on October 6th about how it mirrored Prop 8? Yes, here, let me link you to it. Now that you're caught up to speed, let's put it this way, the people of Maine were the next line of people to say "Fuck you" to other people's basic human rights for happiness.

Now, I'm not gay. I'm in a perfectly happy relationship with a female. But that's because I enjoy boobs, but I can understand and I have been a strong supporter of everyone having the right to be equally miserable in their pursuit of marriage. Today we find out that America is still a socially regressive shit hole. I know, I know. I'll give you a moment to compose yourself and act surprised.

The straight man has finally secured a modicum of safety on this gay, gay earth that some homos won't be ruining their marriage. Nope, it's only in their hands to ruin it now. I don't get it. Maine isn't even very religious, I don't know what the excuse is for this. They can't really blame it on the Mexicans and Blacks, like they did when it passed in California either.

What gets me is that Obama hasn't even touched either of these issues. He promised to get rid of Don't Ask/Don't Tell and hasn't done so. He was silent as all hell on both Prop 8 when it was being a major hot issue topic last year, and he fails to even mention Question 1? What the fuck. I would like to think that Obama would actually gave a shit about the gay community.

Especially when you factor in that Washington state had something on their ballot that gives gay couples pretty much all the same rights, minus the title of marriage. The anti-marriage equality initiative appears to have won in Maine. Meanwhile, a civil unions initiative has prevailed in Washington state.

I think I'm finally getting it. It seems like the basic idea at work here is that if we make being gay as unattractive as possible, people will stop choosing to be gay. Problem solved, right? Any way you put it, this is pretty fucked up shit that you really don't have any reaction to other than to say fffffffffffff to.

I mean it. I seriously don't have all that many words. At least not too many that Lily Allen hasn't already expressed in song form;



While this was really close.. but not as close to Prop 8, the polls were really showing that it wasn't going to pass. So why the difference between what people say and what people actually voted for? Bradley Effect, yo.

The theory here is that some voters might not tell strangers over the phone their true feelings about gay marriage for the same reason they might not tell strangers on the phone their true feelings about a black candidate: They fear that an honest answer wouldn’t be a socially acceptable answer — that it might even make them look like bigots in the eyes of some.

American society in particular is very uncomfortable with homosexuality, basically ascribing it to something akin to an alternate sexual activity or position instead of something essential to a person's identity and social preferences. Even if you aren't religious, you're tainted by the societal phobia. Truly Maine children are now safe from the gay pandemic being taught in schools. there will be no more homosexuals coming out of the state whatsoever.

Accordingly, Americans are easily persuaded that it's a bad thing for kids to know about homosexuality, just like it's a bad thing for kids to know about oral sex or doggystyle intercourse. But then again, that ad campaign about teaching gay marriage to children as a scare tactic really was a new low.. and by new I mean old 'used for prop 8' low tactic. For some ungodly reason quite a few people seriously believe telling kids about homosexuality will cause their children to be gay.

Perhaps it was also all the nerds in Maine who don't want to feel less lonely knowing that they can share their loneliness with lesbians and gays who won't have anyone in this world to love them in marriage, either. Thank god that those queers can't marry now. It will only make straight marriage all that much more SPECIAL and SACRED, Gotta save your marriage from those faggots after all. Why are you allowed to vote on human rights issues at all anyway? This is utterly the worse thing to possibly have on as a ballot measure.

Seriously, in thinking of marriage, I have no problem in just eloping. Marriage is made into a big stink anyhow and this is how we end up with these sort of situations. People think that the actual act of getting married is the big stink. How about just staying together long enough to see an anniversary.

It really can't be a good anti-gay advert without having the typical "Stay Away From My Kids" yelling somewhere in there. Oh my goodness.. Won't anyone think of the children?! Not in our schools! What exactly is 'homosexual marriage taught in schools'? Is it telling kids that it exist? That it's legally equivalent to straight marriage?

When exactly was straight marriage ever taught in schools? No one ever taught me how to obtain a wedding certificate and plan the ceremony and reception while stressing that I must only do this with a member of the opposite sex when I was in school.



Wait, check the tivo, honey, cause that sounds very familiar. Are you sure that we didn't just set the tivo to record all the time the episode airs cause I swear I've seen that before... Oh wait, we have seen it before.. Exactly word for word for it

It may be a satirical campaign going around, but it does make a lot of sense. Why don't we make divorce illegal in California. Sure, we'll lose out in a lot of court cost to getting the dotted line signed on ending your marriage, but if we're going on and on about the sanctity of marriage, we should at least treat it with some respect, don't you think?

RescueMarriage.org is running this campaign and I found it funny that news sites were curious as to if it was satire or serious material. Check out the site, it's kind of funny. I think it's just a bit disorienting because the image is about divorce instead of gay marriage, but it's almost always gay marriage that people are whining about, so you look for a gay marriage statement that isn't there in that logo, right.

You have to love that pro-"protect marriage" satire in that. But in reality, it's true. Why not just get rid of divorce, when you say till death, you mean that shit. Kill the other person in order to get your freedom again. Why the hell not. It means there's one less hypocrite in the world going on about marriage being so sacred.

It's a simple enough question, what's wrong with California lately. It seems that this cool state has totally become uncool quickly. A lot of shit has and is going down and well, I think you need to be brought up to speed on exactly what is messing up this once great place turning it from a the west where everyone belonged to somewhere that is nice to visit, but they wouldn't want to live here.

We can't go to far without addressing the flamboyant 900 pound gorilla dressed in drag in the room. Gay marriage. Yesterday the supreme court, like I stated the other day, came out and stated that Prop 8 will be upheld. Which brought out all the wackos out of the woodwork.

Jorge Riley, 31, of Sacramento had to get up earlier to make the drive to San Francisco to hoist his sign reading, " 'Gay' = Pervert."

"I don't know how many times it's going to take for the judges to listen to the will of the people," Riley said.

Jorge Riley sounds like a huge faggot. What Jackass Riley and other Pro-Prop 8 douche bags want to preserve is the word "Marriage" and keep it as a protected term.



Except the problems come from the fact that civil unions don't grant the same rights. Apparently, there are well over a thousand rights that heterosexual couples get that homosexual couples don't, such as adoption, joint parental rights, next-of-kin status at hospitals, joint filing of taxes, leave to care for your sick partner, certain types of life insurance, many of the tax credits associated with families, and a bunch of other things.

If you feel that there's no difference between being married in the eyes of the law and just having your common law This (21 page PDF)should be required reading for anyone who believes that it is possible to give someone all the rights and privileges of marriage without calling it marriage. Most of the states that made the leap to marriage equality did so because it was impossible to pull off even after years of trying. Federal recognition would make civil unions less shitty but they will never be equal to marriage.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recognizes the deeply held feelings on both sides, but strongly affirms its belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman. The bedrock institution of marriage between a man and a woman has profound implications for our society. These implications range from what our children are taught in schools to individual and collective freedom of religious expression and practice.

Accordingly, the Church stands firmly for what it believes is right for the health and well-being of society as a whole. In doing so, it once again affirms that all of us are children of God, and all deserve to be treated with respect. The Church believes that serious discussion of these issues is not helped when extreme elements on both sides of the debate demonize the other.

What a bunch of bastards. It's a slap to the face since Prop 8 was polling consistently for No until the Yes on 8 campaign was launched. It not only told outright lies about the issue (claiming that churches would be forces to recognize gay marriage) but it also had millions more dollars and an infinitely better outreach program. The reason it passed with that slight win was because the religious communities went full tilt in campaigning for it and what do you have now? The Supreme court stripping away the rights of people all for a majority win.



The problem here is that churches want to operate as private groups, yet want the protections and funding of public institutions. I'm sure it warrants a blog all to itself, but I think that the tax breaks and extra rights for married couples need to just get cut off completely regardless of your orientation. Tax breaks and extra rights for married couples of any orientation should seriously be gone for an equal society.

But that isn't the only thing wrong with California. Not by a long shot. Perhaps a lot of the bigger issues (not saying equality isn't a big issue, by the way) is being overshadowed by these protest. If we actually looked at all the problems that California had and protested, rioted and screamed out to the streets to take down our elected officials, then we'd actually be out just about every day of the week.



It would take a lot to really explain everything that is wrong with this state.

First off we have Prop 13 which requires 2/3 majority to raise taxes in any form, preventing property taxes on property that doesn't change ownership from rising by more than 1% per year. This means that young people buying homes get fucked hard and the rich/old get an amazing deal and don't have to support their portion of the county/city governments. So the state has to bail out local governments repeatedly. All because young people didn't turn out to vote on this shit.

Next up you have the prison system with its incredibly strong guard union and idiotically long 3 strikes sentencing means we're paying soe ridiculously obscene amounts to house a huge number of prisoners and simultaneously triple bunking them in terrible conditions.



It's simple. You take all the money and give it to the cops for "anti-gang" domestic terrorism. Which get a lot of people in jail. Oh wait, now with all those people in jail you have to spend a lot to keep them fed, with power and guarded which adds up. So then you cut money from education and health care to pay for those prisons. Oh wait, shitty school systems and no jobs causes people to commit crime and end up in jail. Now what do we do? We blame welfare and then we privatize prisons.

Then you get into the Republicans. For as much as we claim we're the beacon and progressive trend setter of the nation, we have a lot of fuckin' republicans. We gave the world Reagan and Nixon. The first was responsible for the stupid 2/3 vote shit that has fucked us up. As long as republicans don't allow the democrats to have super majority, they have equal power in crafting the budget. Which is hilarious and means we can never raise taxes. Democrats still have congress so they'll keep rolling out programs expecting the money to come from somwhere that never shows. And of course republicans get just as many new programs and spending because otherwise it wouldn't be FAIR. Apparently bipartisanship means each side gets 50% of the power despite how anyone votes.



Speaking of what Reagan gave us. He sure fucked us with the shitty proposition system which means anyone who is rich enough can pay signature gatherers to put anything on the ballet. Cost for a measure is $1 million and all you need after that is 50%+ of the popular vote to pass anything including CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS THAT CAN ONLY BE OVERTURNED BY 2/3 OF CONGRESS! So we get a bunch more spending on shit we don't need and as abonus our liberal courts get overturned by the writhing masses every time.

The short of it is that there's too many programs to pay for because it's so easy to tack on a program on the ballots and get it passed. Look at Prop 8. While I love high speed trains, who do you think is going to pay for that program? Especially when republicans don't want to raise taxes, democrats don't want to cut programs. So you're stuck with us always going into the red to pay for a lifestyle that is well beyond our means.



So when you're asked who's fault is it that California is shit, you should answer with "Your Mom!" Cause that's who votes for every proposition that sounds like it would benefit someone and honestly believes we can just print more money to pay for it.

As for Arnold. While you can't balance a budget with one-liners, he is doing the best that he can. He's trying his hardest to fix the problems which is kind of cool but his methods apparently involve the state simply not paying public employees or paying them less than minimum wage so soon in addition to not having money we won't have any competent public workers either.

The problem is that California made a shit tons of money in the 90's during the tech boom, squandered it all on tax cuts, tied their entire state's livelihood into real estate and you know how that turned out. Then on ballot initiatives, flawed state politics and had too many people living unsustainable lifestyles.



The worse part is that we can never raise enough money through taxes unless the voters say yes in 2/3rds. Which never happens. So really the fault is the budget is controlled by the voters through various propositions and over time they have guaranteed that California should spend 150% of their tax income. Oh and taxes can never increase.

Oh, and a follow up to last yesterdays blog about the day in court. I got a rather loud pounding on my door today from the DA serving me up a subpoena to be a witness. I was also told that the other douche who held the guy back would be a witness today. So yeah, I follow up his buddy as a witness. Grraaaaaand. Hey, at least it may finally get resolved, right?

Then again, have I seen what is being posted on the internet lately?

The prop passed and there was protest, marches and El Coyote lost a lot of business, even though they are pretty good and cheap on the wallet. Promises that they were going to take it up with the court systems and well... we have some news on that.. or do we?

SF Mayor Gavin Newsom Asked Court to Delay Prop 8 Ruling

Confidential sources close to San Francisco City Hall told Towleroad's Corey Johnson that the California Supreme Court was prepared to release its opinion on Proposition 8 tomorrow, but decided to delay the ruling after a call from Mayor Gavin Newsom.

Newsom"Newsom reached out to the Supreme Court and asked them to hold off releasing their decision so it did not coincide with the White Night riots," said our source.

As mentioned earlier, a ruling Thursday would have fallen on the 30th anniversary of the San Francisco riots, which were set off when the court handed down the most lenient decision possible (voluntary manslaughter) against Dan White for the murders of supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone. The ensuing riots in San Francisco on May 21, 1979 caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

Gavin Newsom's office has issued a release denying the story.

San Francisco Supervisor Bevan Dufty spoke with Towleroad late this afternoon, saying he doubted the claims. Said Dufty: "It is implausible if not impossible to imagine that the Mayor could reach out to the California Supreme Court. Any thinking person would know that he would be radioactive to the justices given his leadership on the issue. His father is a retired federal judge. The Mayor's courage on this issue is unimpeachable. He would not intrude in what we've been waiting for."

The california supreme court's decision has to be released within 2 weeks, and if they didn't want it to coincide with the anniversary of huge gay riots it's pretty certain this decision is the one that will get the gays out on the streets.

It was always only a small posibility that the courts would overturn prop 8. However, it is not likely to survive on referendum past 2010 or 2012 at the latest. With the small margin it lost by in 2008, California would have to be resisting the national trends toward support for gay marriage to maintain the "no" majority for that long.

The CA legislature should pass a band-aid law to recognize marriages performed in other states, like NY and DC have. Then CA gays can take some vacations into Iowa, see some corn, and come back married. Oh yeah, Prop 8 made even that illegal...

With Gavin looking to run for Governor after Arnold's run on ruining the state is over, this is going to be a hot issue. Hopefully he can make good on having the doors busted wide open on this whole matter.. So failing on the promise of telling people to like it or not... it may not be the best.

But I hope they do riot. Just because it falls on a different day doesn't mean the outcome will change. Bad news is bad news no matter how you shake it. I hear they're putting barricades in the castro to prepare for the riots. Even if they decided to take this to the supreme court, it'll be a stupid decision.

Will it pass again then? Well, that's where I suggest we burn Orange County to the fucking ground. Toss in the Inland Empire in that napalm blast. Don’t Trash WeHo When Protesting Prop 8

West Hollywood, California (Thursday, May 21, 2009) - West Hollywood’s intersection of Santa Monica and San Vicente Boulevards has a long tradition of being the gay community’s gathering place, be it in celebration or protest.

Most recently we gathered more than a few times to protest the passage of Proposition 8, which added discrimination to the California Constitution by denying same-sex couples their previously afforded legal right to marry.

Observers believe that the court will uphold the passage of Proposition 8, and we will again take to the streets of West Hollywood.

Unfortunately, there have been rumblings that otherwise responsible, level-headed folk are gearing up to throw bricks.

Equality California (EQCA) sent an E mail yesterday that began, “The decision we have been waiting for is coming any day now. While we hope for the best, we are prepared to do whatever it takes to win marriage back (emphasis added),”

WeHo News contacted EQCA for a clarification, but did not receive a response before deadline.

Anything but non-violent demonstrations would be very bad turns on very many fronts. We have seen time after time a community in outrage destroy their own.

It’s happened here before.

Turning on West Hollywood is not a solution. Harming our businesses, putting our residents and visitors in harm’s way is not going to help. Forcing our Sheriff’s personnel to take drastic action against us only harms a relationship with a very good ally.

In November, 2008 our very own WeHo Sheriff’s personnel did an amazing job working with city staffers and community leaders to keep us safe and protected.

It was not our Sheriff’s that we saw the next day on the news swinging bats. In fact, over those following few weeks we really tapped out their resources with many protests starting elsewhere else and ending up here in West Hollywood.

Yes, if the CA Supreme Court upholds Prop 8 we will be angry. There is still anger in the community four months later.

I hear it, others do too, and yes, we need an outlet for that anger. But let’s not allow the outlet to be violent and self-destructive.

Let’s gather, yell, scream, march, stomp our feet, and other forms of getting the anger out.

Then let us come together as a community and do what we need to do together to turn this tide around.

There have been groups that have sprung into action since Prop 8 passed.

The Courage Campaign and Equal Roots are just two that offer positive, action oriented activities and objectives to help our cause and move us forward.

Equality Central, formerly Equality Network, has been amazing at letting us know about the many events and activities in which to participate. Remember the press coverage?

We have the opportunity to show the world that we can take what comes next.

All struggles like this have had setbacks, Women’s Suffrage and the African American Civil Rights Movement to name just a few.

It does not make it okay, but it should make us stronger, and more determined.

I do hope that we are able to celebrate but if not, let’s be together, be angry together, grieve together, and then move forward together without harming those that help us or are part of our struggle.

Together, we can make it happen wisely and, hopefully, peacefully.

What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? Clearly a lot is to laugh about. During this time of year it's easy to say that and feel like you're making a difference, but we all know how much I just get off on calling the bullshit out on those band-aid "I'm making a difference" mentality that many have.

Take for example this news piece, which while I have beaten the prop 8 subject down enough, this one just stands out as so wrong from the LOS ANGELES Times - For 40 days, the couple gave up coffee and didn't eat for 12 hours a day. And Robbie gave up "Days of Our LIves," the soap opera she had been watching since high school.... "We're not trying to take anything from them; we just want to protect marriage as God designed it," Abel said.



If you're not going to bother reading it let me sum up the best parts.

The Ferreiras like life in their gated community in the eastern suburbs of San Diego. Their house, nestled at the end of a cul-de-sac, is comfortable, with plenty of room for them and their three grown children, who still live at home.

But the Ferreiras are afraid of what is happening to the world beyond the gates.

"I'm just seeing our morals and everything just deteriorating before us," Robbie, 49, said one recent evening.

Looks like the noise of two guys fucking makes it clear across those gates. Oh, don't worry, this gets better as you read the article:

"We hate the sin," Abel often declares, "not the sinner."

Abel said he knows what it is to sin. A former drug user, he found Jesus while serving time in prison.

After he was released, he toured the state, telling his conversion story at evangelical gatherings. He met Robbie at a revival in Barstow.

They were married, had three children and then divorced. Ten years ago, they remarried. In the interim, Robbie had married and divorced another man.

The Ferreiras insist their divorces do not make them hypocrites in the fight for Proposition 8 and the preservation of the "sacredness" of marriage. They say it just proves that they are flawed people like everyone else.

Moral high ground here folks. I don't understand the preserving marriage argument, seriously. The only ones responsible for your failed marriage(s) is you, not some queers getting married. These people got married, got divorced, she remarried, got divorced, then they married again. This is somehow morally justified and approved by god but two gay people marrying isn't?

They also forget that women were property in bible times. They also had polygamy as well. But we shouldn't expect fundies to be rational. Soooo..

If you want to be righteous than live a righteous life. There's nothing wrong and it's your freedom to do so. But leave me the hell out of it.

There's still one thing I'm very confused by.

I have no idea what the significance of giving up this shit for only 12 hours a day is. I wonder if they know they just accidentally observed Ramadan. Perhaps it's just the number of hours their first marriage lasted.

This holiday season if you're going to carry this love for your fellow man at least be consistent with it. This article is a clear case that no matter how many times you say "I don't mean to offend you but....", it's always going to be taken as offensive.

We finally really did it. You Maniacs! You passed prop 8! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!



I don't get you people. Yes, that's right I said YOU PEOPLE. Because I, for one, did not vote yes for prop 8. You just had to listen and read my blogs to see where I stand on this issue. It's stupid to strip a group of their civil rights that make them equal to everyone else.

A lot of people have said that Obama brought out the black voters who are to blame for the passing of prop 8. While they got civil liberties and fought for the right to be equal, they turned around and felt the need to deny others of civil liberties.


But I'm not convinced by this logic. You see the final numbers was 52.3 yes and 47.7 no, so you have a 4.6 percent split. the black vote was 10 percent of the electorate and voted 70 percent yes and 30 percent no. if you adjust the totals as if black people had voted the same, or even 50/50, you still end up with prop 8 winning by more than 2 percent.

That still doesn't excuse the fact that someone who fought for civil equality decided to deny others the very same civil equality. But it's not the only reason why it passed.



There's also the backlash. Those reap what they sow. In this case El Coyote Restaurant owner, who is a member of the LDS Mormon church is now crawling home with her tail between her legs because, get this, while they're located in West Hollywood, they were dumb enough to not only support Prop 8 but also give money to them.

I have been sick at heart that anyone has been offended by me. I have family, friends, employees from the gay community who are treasured people in my life. I have been a member of the Mormon church all my life. I responded to their request with my personal donation. For years the El Coyote has financially and generously supported the gay community and its charities.

Of course she's going to be sorry. It's effecting her pocket book. Is there really no accountability? Just because you're a member of a church doesn't mean you need to follow them blindly. Hell, the simple fact that they are serving alcohol or even open on a Sunday means they are not following the church's teaching to the book as those two things goes against the church.

So don't give me this bullshit that you didn't realize that it would have such an effect. Again, the proposition description started with ELIMINATE RIGHTS in it. She's feeling the pinch now because she, along with others, have been outed for giving money to advertise for prop 8. I'm not spending any time feeling sorry for her suffering consequences to her actions. She could have just easily said no when the church passed around the collection plate.

And a quick follow up to this. The event happened and as you could expect, it was a train wreck which will only be followed by boycotts of the place. Why? Because while she's sorry, she's only sorry that she was outed and has no intention on supporting a NO on prop 8 side in fighting this in court. What a fucking sheep. While they have cheap margaritas out of the gun, I wont be supporting a place that takes the profits from my business there and channels it to a church that lives by a double standard.



This isn't limited to LDS and the black community. Let's toss some blame to Saddleback Church, which in itself, has a pretty gay sounding name. This Mecca for evangelicals in Southern California played its part in getting this proposition to pass.

Saddleback Church has the pastor Rick Warren who hosted a forum thing with Obama and McCain and then campaigned for prop. 8 hardcore. He also wrote this really dumb book called The Purpose Driven Life which is basically a self-help book with lots of God, that has become one of the best selling books of all time. (I was once given a copy of this by evangelicals fearful for my godless, Californian soul.) Weekly church attendance for Saddleback exceeds 23,000.

Saddleback is a prime example of megachurches at their worst. The Lord apparently likes large plasma screens.

But back onto the Mormons... those fucks. It seems that they're getting but hurt about the hate they're getting.

Others who supported Proposition 8 said they have also been targeted. Scott Purves, of Purves & Associates, a Davis insurance company, said a protester carrying a sign reading "Purves Family Supports Homophobia" picketed his business Monday.

"If this had gone the other way, I can't imagine the backlash if people protested and called the other side names," said Purves. "People would be angry and rightfully so. ... It makes me sad that this would happen when a majority of people supported this measure."

"It's disheartening that he is being singled out," said Lisa West, spokeswoman for the church in the Sacramento area. "We had hoped there would be more tolerance for different viewpoints."

"Protesting is a time-honored American tradition," said Ned Dolejsi, executive director of the California Catholic Conference. Catholic leaders were active in the Yes on 8 campaign. "But it's unfortunate when it steps over into religious bigotry or harassment."

Waaaa. Waa aaa, My hateful actions have consequences! No shit, you scum. That last quote really gets to me.

I just never wrapped my head around being against gay marriage. I mean, gay people shop for groceries and that hasn't changed grocery shopping for me. So I seriously don't think letting them get married would hurt anything either. Did I miss some sort of memo sent out amongst straight people on why exactly anyone should be against this?

I would say that we should ban Mormon marriage but if you were to try to practice it as the founder originally intended, it would be illegal as well. Then again, why do you want multiple wives?


The issue has been heating up even after the elections with protest and boycotts. I believe they're justified as it is taking human rights and tossing them out the window. While I don't believe in violent protest, it's not like the religious right is playing this with any tact. The actions of Margie from El Coyote and the video above show that there's either remorse or a strong standing by ones convictions. You can't be surprised if someone slaps your sign out of your hand if you're egging them on like the old lady did with that group.

I can't wait til the California Supreme Court takes this case on and smacks the shit out of the pro-prop 8 people. They tried to go around the Supreme Court. You don't fuckin do that. The Supreme Court is going to fuck them for that, and in a totally gay way.

When this gets overturned it will be even better than if it had been defeated in the first place. Not only will these people have accomplished nothing, but they will have bankrupted themselves in order to do so

This is very simple. Print this out and take it with you on Tuesday. Consider it your last minute cramming to the American voting system. As we speak newspapers throughout California are printing op-ed pieces that reflect the local interests of their readers (i.e. whatever agenda the media company that owns them wants them to print). Especially of interest are California's wacky propositions that only serve to further convolute our state's laws, creating a rich tapestry of contradictions and confusion that rivals the Holy Bible.

2008's ballot measures are a doozy. There are the usual suspects, initiatives that sound really good but really only benefit the ghost of Hitler, extravagant bonds that pay for kind of useful crap, "think of the children" nonsense, and the "parental notification" one that's going for a three-peat defeat. Then there's the anti-gay marriage one which appears to have taken home Best of Show this year. Come on guys, can we argue over a different ballot measure for five damn minutes? Jesus.

With so much crap being peddled by the people of this silly state it's hard to sort out the awful propositions from the really awful propositions. What is a voter who just wants to get back to playing Fallout 3 to do?

Why, the only thing you can do. Turn that brain off, print out this page, and bring it with you when you go to the polls on Tuesday. Don't just vote the wrong way, vote the goon way. Here's a rundown of California's ballot measures and how you should vote on them.

Proposition 1A - "Safe, Reliable High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Act for the 21st Century. Haha, No Really, Trains"

How you should vote: Yes.

If you've ever thought about becoming a homosexual, there's no better way to start than to vote yes on Proposition 1A. Trains are gay, and gays love trains. The No On 8 campaign and the Yes On 1A campaign should join forces and redefine what a train going through a tunnel really means (anal sex involving two men by the way). What better way to celebrate your legal homosexual marriage than with a romantic trip on the high speed rail to San Francisco and a quickie in the bathroom at 220 MPH?

Now I know what you're thinking. "Ten billion for trains? Those things still exist?" When most people in America think of trains they think of crummy old Amtrak. Well, the high speed rail network in California will do several things that our current railroad network doesn't.

• It will actually go somewhere.
• It might actually get there on time.
• It won't tip over and burst into flames.

"But public transportation..." you say, "Isn't that for illegal aliens from... Mexico???" No, see, that's the beauty of high speed rail. Manny from East L.A. is priced right the hell off the train! Unlike mass transit, high speed rail makes an operating profit in countries like Japan and France. There's no reason it won't in California, especially considering brown people like me won't be able to ride it. That's a win-win for everyone.

No illegals and plenty of man ass. What's not to love? Unfortunately someone had to show up to rain on our 10 billion dollar parade. The bulk of the opposition comes from The Reason Foundation, a libertarian think tank that writes in complete sentences and uses proper grammar, so instead of refuting their claims I'm going to cherry pick some retarded comments from the Internet. Click on them to bare witness to their logic.

There is nothing faster in life than a high speed train.

Unfounded fear mongering. The staple of any good election.

Prop 1A will create jobs, NIMBY drama, and cure cancer, the cancer that infests our transportation infrastructure in this state, that is! Go ahead and vote yes on 1A, because lawsuit after lawsuit is just going to kill it anyway.

Proposition 2 - "The Chicken One"

How you should vote: Yes.

Continuing the gay theme of this update, I'm recommending a yes vote on Proposition 2. My support for this measure isn't so much about animal rights than it is about revenge.

I used to be one of those guys who bought cage free eggs. I figured it was a good compromise. People who want chickens treated better will pay a higher price to do so. Those who don't can continue to pay lower prices for eggs. You know, free market and all that nonsense.

Hens that are allowed to extend their wings and go out for a smoke every once in a while live longer, healthier lives and produce eggs that glow in the dark.

Then I realized that just because it says "cage free" on the carton doesn't necessarily mean more humane treatment. In fact, some of these cage free hens are better off in cages.

The "free range" movement was marketed as if chickens would be chilling on Old MacDonald's farm and shitting out an egg every once in a while like Yoshi. Instead, it's cramped conditions in dark, filthy warehouses where chickens just piss and shit everywhere. And I was paying, what, 4 dollars a dozen to support this? Fuck eggs.

Since these so called free range farmers didn't hold up their end of the bargain, they all get to suffer through eggs that cost pennies more to produce, costs that will only be passed on to consumers who will hardly notice, if this measure passes. This will surely make or break many farmers struggling to survive. California may lose millions of dollars because of egg producers that left to other states or even the country just so they could stomp on chickens' heads while jerking themselves off.

We might even have to import our eggs from, God help us, Mexico. Whoops, I mean huevos. They don't screw around with giving chickens rights down there. If anything, they make them fight a couple rounds between laying eggs.

Proposition 3 - "Children's Hospital Bond Act of 2004 2008"

How you should vote: No.

The joke should be obvious here.

Proposition 4 - "HERE WE GO AGAIN"

How you should vote: No.

It wouldn't be a California election without parental notification.

I'm pro-abortion. No, not pro-choice, but pro-abortion. Abortion is simply a tool used to prevent unwanted births, nothing more or nothing less. This means abortions should be readily available at low, low prices. The stigma associated with getting an abortion should be removed through hip advertising campaigns that paint abortion as the hot new trend all the cool girls are participating in.

Maybe it could be like a Sex in the City thing where these teens strut around with their designer handbags and walk into an abortion clinic and spread their legs. I could see that commercial running on TV.

In any case, anything that gets these women to terminate their pregnancies is a good thing and anything that stands in the way of that is a bad thing. I'll tell you what the real danger is. A girl not getting an abortion because she doesn't want her parents to know, waiting until it's too late to terminate the pregnancy, only to get beaten by the abusive father figure once she ask for permission or advice on getting the abortion. Or choosing to then giving birth to a kid that's only going to grow up and carjack you.

I can fear monger too, you know.

Proposition 5 - "Get Out of Jail and Into the Treatment Center of My Heart Act"

How you should vote: Yes.

People don't always vote so much on the actual text of the law a proposition is based on but on the ideology that led to its creation. Regardless of what Proposition 5 specifically does, it breaks away from our failed drug control policies to offer something that may just be more effective, treatment as opposed to jail for nonviolent offenders. As long as a line making the act of shot putting newborn puppies off a cliff legal isn't buried somewhere deep in the text of the law, I'm okay with it.

The idea is that the guy who stole my stereo, if he did it to feed a drug addiction, would be offered rehabilitation instead of jail so that when all is said and done, he hopefully loses his insatiable lust for drugs and thievery and becomes a productive member of society.

Of course, it doesn't always work. But then again neither does our ridiculous "war on drugs".

Proposition 6 - "Gently Caress The Police"

How you should vote: No.

Tupac opposes Prop 6 because it will spend one billion dollars on unproven programs with ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY.

If Prop 5 is designed to relieve stress on our overcrowded prisons, then Prop 6 is its mortal enemy. It seeks to pack more prisoners into jails with tougher penalties on trivial things like being a gang member while committing extortion, robbery, and intimidating witnesses. A life sentence for carjacking sounds nice, but don't these guys usually find Allah in prison (well, the version that doesn't want to kill us all)? A parole hearing isn't out of the question after a couple of decades if the dude starts seeing Muhammad in the walls of his prison cell.

The measure also makes meth possession a felony and increases prison terms for possession of meth with an intent to sell. I wonder how someone could reconcile voting yes on both 5 and 6.

There's also some wacky stuff about expanding the situations in which hearsay evidence is permissible in court. Lionel Hutz is spinning in his grave.

Of course, this thing is going to pass because hey, police funding and gangs. What the hell am I going to say? "Fuck the police"? Sometimes you just have to pick your battles.

Propositions 7 and 10 - "The Feel-Good Ballot Initiatives of the Year!"

How you should vote: No on both.

Both the California Democratic Party and the California Republican Party are opposing Prop 7. You don't even have to read the goddamn thing to know that you're going to vote no on this. I'm not going to waste your time even telling you what it's about.

Prop 10 is the infamous payday for natural gas baron T. Boone Pickens. Renewable energy and alternative fuel vehicles sound good and a few morons will vote yes on this, but this proposition will provide a billion dollars in rebates to purchasers of "heavy-duty vehicles weighing 25,000 pounds or more" as opposed to $340 million for high and very high fuel economy light vehicles.

The idea is to sell more heavy-duty vehicles that run on natural gas, a product sold by the backers of this ballot measure.

Both measures sound good in theory, like the time my girlfriend said her flow was light and that it was okay to go down there, but all these two propositions will result in is a bloody fiscal mess.

Proposition 8 - "The Make Sonic The Hedgehog Less Gay Act of 2008"

How you should vote: No.

If you don't know my stance on this issue, you haven't been reading this blog much. So I'll just take this time to make a stupid joke at the expense of Sonic The Hedgehog.

In the glory days of 16-bit consoles Sonic the Hedgehog was the edgy alternative to Mario. He was faster, more hip, and was blue, basically the opposite of poor old Mario. Unfortunately Mario has aged far more gracefully than Sonic has, turning Sonic into the video game equivalent of an old queen.

This goes against my religion. I'm pretty sure it goes against all religions though.

Sonic the Hedgehog has always been a progressive figure. The Sonic saga was one of the first to feature the first openly gay video game character, Miles "Tails" Prower ("Miles Per Hour"). Sonic did not care that Tails was gay and neither did we. Unfortunately homosexual liberals have perverted the legacy of Sonic to turn his games into festering piles of queer bait that are played in our schools.

Prop 8 seeks to redefine Sonic from the icon of furry perversion back into a figurehead for alternative console mascots everywhere. It was Sonic who led the fight against Mario, alongside Crash Bandicoot, Gex, and other failed mascots, similar to how Rachael Ray and Ellen battle Oprah in the eternal struggle for the attention of stupid women.

This law mandates that Sega make a good Sonic game within three years of its passing. Failure to do so would turn Sega into a furniture company.

VOTE YES TO PROTECT THE SANCTITY OF THE GREEN HILL ZONE. Vote no on the real one by the way.

Proposition 12 - "Round Eye Bond Act of 2008"

How you should vote: Don't bother. It's money for veterans.

It's going to pass anyway, like it did the last 26 times. In fact if you try to vote you might even screw up and become the only one to vote no on it. Then you go to hell.

Budget crisis be damned. This is your chance, California. Let's put newly rehabilitated big gay construction dudes to work on our big gay trains so we can get gay married while we eat gay eggs from Mexican chickens. California, redefining gay while hiding from creditors.

Damn, by the way, I left my wallet in my other pants. Can you get this one? Thanks a ton.

Yes, this yet another Prop 8 related blog. I realize, I must want to have my gay marriage now, right? I just think that this prop and the people behind the campaign to get it passed are the lowest form of scum. This is one of those confusing election choices. A vote for no means yes to rights of others and a vote for yes means no to human rights.



As many were passing out candy on Halloween, there was a handful of people passing out something worse than dental floss, candy corn and pennies. They handed these fliers out to parents out with their children advocating a YES on Prop 8 by using scare tactics on what they're children may or may not be exposed to in schools. The kicker here, even if prop 8 is passed, your students can still be taught about gay marriage in school. There's nothing in the writing of prop 8 that eliminates the ability for schools to teach about gay marriages.

If you're a teacher and prop 8 passes, I implore you to go right ahead and teach about gay marriage in school in the context of this very same proposition stripping gays of their equal rights to marry. That'll show the knights of columbus and Mormon groups. Then again, if this gets passed and gay marriage is taken away, they'll be happy anyway. So it's a lose/lose situation no matter how you cut it unless prop 8 doesn't pass. Again, MARRIAGE ISN'T TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS TILL THE MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL! Dirty Pool, Pro-prop 8. Dirty fuckin' pool!

I recently talked to a friend from out of state about the props on the ballot this year and he wondered why Prop 8 was looking like it was going to pass. How California looks to be a generally liberal place. Not so much. Most of California is backwater shit holes filled with rednecks like Bakersfield , Fresno, and the Inland Empire. Then you have Orange and San Diego Counties that are bastions of "fuck you got mine" conservatives. San Diego is Bakersfield with a beach and comic con. There are dozens of better California beach front cities that aren't filled with brain dead soldiers and bitter old people.

Orange County is a horrible shit hole filled with upper-middle-class tools, racists, bros, and is home to Saddle back Church and that asshole who wrote the Purpose Driven Life as well as the Trinity Broadcast Network. So it doesn't surprise me that it spawns such hatred that driving through there has a sea of YES ON 8 signs plastered everywhere. It did give us Nixon and was a city who latches onto the L.A. name for a baseball team as well as going bankrupt while having a major theme park in their city. Talk about Reaganomics.

That's the key here. "Fuck You Got Mine" is the only mentality that kicks in here. Straight people have had the right for marriage for as long as anyone can remember. Will it really hurt their marriage to allow gay people to join them in that dreaded celebration of misery?

I have never heard a reasonable, thought out response to someone asking why marriage is somehow in trouble, and why people think voting against gay marriage is "protecting" marriage. does your marriage become null and void if gay marriage becomes legal? I just don't get it. Also, this whole battle has changed my opinion on Mormons from "whatever" to "fucking cult assholes."



I hate that people say heterosexual marriage is what is traditional. If we were going for tradition we would still see marriage as an exchange of property, not love, and require dowries. It's bullshit that people are trying to defend a false institution. Marriage has never been sanctified in the first place, throughout history its been a tool of oppression and then when it finally becomes more or less equal it is debased by reality TV and divorce rates

I can only hope that it fails due to the bradley effect. People say yes yes keep those faggots from marrying, then go into the booth and think "what the fuck am i doing? here i am voting a black man in for president then voting against faggots, what the fuck is wrong with me?" I don't even see anywhere in the new testament where god gives a shit about government. If anyone tells you "It's Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve", just slap them. Seriously. Slap them.
