Strange Ass Old Films
It's October. Yes, I just stated the fucking obvious but I did it for a reason. I usually always think that it's still the previous month for a couple of days into a new month because I have a terrible grasp of the concept that some months have thirty and others have thirty one days. Fucking conspiracy, I tell you.
But I also remind you that it's October now because that means it's the start of all that scary stuff that happens this month. Lots of events are centered around attempting to make you piss your pants. Something about fall that people love to try to scare you. What with the sun setting a lot earlier causing it to get darker soon. That and that whole Halloween stuff at the end of the month. If you haven't seen costumes at the store, you're not going out to support capitalism enough.
But most of all, this is the best time to catch those scary movies. They get released in full force this month. But before you go out and catch the latest crappiest attempt to get you scared, how about you look to the real horror of the past. The stuff that wasn't meant to be scary, but you can't deny that it'll freak you the fuck out. Stuff like this:
The Thing With Two Heads... even scarier for the white guy is that he has a black person's head on his shoulders. He's gonna get robbed every second of every day. Daaaaamn, did I go there? You know I'm kidding. But to be honest, this was one scary film. More so because I wondered how it actually got produced. The standards of the past must have been pretty relaxed.
But hey, in every cloud there is a silver lining. This movie created Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band as a project for the soundtrack, which generated some blindingly awesome instrumental rock in the '70s. That in itself should scary you just as much.
As for the film, despite the poster being pretty far out, the film is actually pretty fucking boring. And really, that's all I have to say about the matter. Such potential squandered on a film premise.
