For as long as I can remember owning a playstation I can remember playing Resident Evil. The concept and me go way back. I love zombies. Namely killing them. So when you pit me as a character in a scary mansion with a gun and tell me that this is survival horror, I'm totally game.
One of the highlights and greatest moments as a gamer is when I was at my friends Mark house on yet another Friday night filled with nothing to do. My other friend Josh was messing around with the computer, perhaps playing Red Alert. I wasn't sure. Mark playing his mix tapes and playing with a toy yoda... yeah, don't ask. He was a raver at the time. And I was sitting there and I popped open the playstation to play some Resident Evil 2.
Oddly enough I didn't have a memory card on me and mark didn't have any around. I still played the game figuring I was just going to play for a little while or until I died. Being that when you die you go back to the last part you saved in the memory card. Two hours later I was beating the game without losing a single life. I was sort of sad that I didn't have the memory card. I don't think it's much of an easy feat to beat the game without losing a single life.... well, besides never having a life to begin with. But that's neither here nor there.
With the latest generation game systems came a new resident evil game and I most likely followed suit and bought the game system because of it. Dreamcast, Gamecube and now Playstation 3 is getting Resident Evil 5. I'm really curious as to how it will be.
Again, I'm a huge Resident Evil fan. I once went as Chris Redfield for Halloween. I have many S.T.A.R.S replica crap. Which is sort of strange, because how do you replicate things from a video game? Either way, I have money clips and all sorts of crap from the game "universe". It's just something I do. In many ways Capcom has me by the balls.
So when I hear Capcom is doing a promotion that fits really well with the design of Resident Evil I was pretty much laughing. You see, it's a Resident Evil Blood Drive.
We’re inviting you to give Resident Evil 5 a shot and make a positive change for the community on the day Resident Evil 5 Ships! On Friday. March 13th Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 and the American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive in the LA area. Before you go pick up your copy of the game, come give back to the community by donating blood. Aside from helping out the community, Capcom’s got a slew of cool, collectible giveaways to those that come by and participate in the blood drive..We’ll have some limited edition RE5 Blood Drive Collectables including one-of-a-kind posters, pins and bumper stickers along with a chance to win copies of the game and even the limited edition Red Xbox 360 RE5 bundles!I guess many shallow people would do it for the chance to get an Resident Evil Xbox. I dunno. I have no idea what are the odds of winning it. I just find promotions like this to be pretty funny. That and giving blood is a pretty kind thing that most over look in their daily life. I say you should give blood often. You keep producing a lot of it.
Not to mention I know how much I waste in my daily accidents. I'm pretty clumsy. So the need for blood is something I'm sure I'll eventually use. Karma is something of a good motivator in this whole thing. Even if it's not used for saving lives, I'm sure they at least give the blood that's about to expire to vampires to sustain their blood lust and save some innocent victim from an unneeded vampire attack. At least that's how it plays out in my mind.
I signed myself up and well, I'm all for it. So if this blog does anything, perhaps it'll encourage you to go out and give blood... or at least play Resident Evil. It may very well save your life to be prepared for the pending zombie Apocalypse
